"ARE YOU LISTENING? DAY"
I AM EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THIS FRIDAY'S
"ARE YOU LISTENING? DAY"
AUDIO BOOK CHOICE IS.....
GIVEAWAY ENDED
AND THEREBY HANGS A TALE
AUDIO BOOK OF SHORT STORIES
BY JEFFREY ARCHER
READ BY GERARD DOYLE

ABOUT THE AUDIO BOOK:

International bestselling author Jeffrey Archer has spent the last five years gathering spellbinding stories from around the globe. These fifteen brand-new tales showcase Archer's talent for capturing an unforgettable moment in time, whether tragic, comic, or outrageous.

In India, Jamwal and Nisha fall in love while waiting for a traffic light to turn green on the streets of Delhi.

From Germany comes “A Good Eye,” the tale of a priceless oil painting that has remained in the same family for over two hundred years, until...

To the Channel Islands and “Members Only,” where a golf ball falls out of a Christmas cracker, and a young man's life will never be the same...

To Italy and “No Room at the Inn,” where a young man who is trying to book a room at a hotel ends up in bed with the receptionist, unaware that she...

To England, where, in “High Heels,” a woman has to explain to her husband why a pair of designer shoes couldn't have gone up in flames...

Some of these stories will make you laugh while others will bring you to tears but, once again, every one of them will demand that you keep turning the page until you finally discover what happens to this remarkable cast of characters.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Jeffrey Archer was educated at Oxford University. He has served five years in Britain’s House of Commons, fourteen years in the House of Lords, and two in Her Majesty’s prisons, which spawned three volumes of highly acclaimed Prison Diaries. All of his novels and short story collections---including Kane and Abel, Sons of Fortune, and False Impression---have been international bestsellers. Archer is married with two children and lives in London and Cambridge. Go HERE to Jeffrey Archer's Website to read more about his amazing life!

ABOUT THE READER:

Gerard Doyle reads everything from adult, young adult, and children's books to literary fiction, mysteries, humor, adventure, and fantasy. He has won countless AudioFile Earphones Awards and was named a Best Voice in Young Adult Fiction in 2008. His audiobook credits include Clubland, And Thereby Hangs a Tale, Distant Echo, and Risk Worth Taking. His career in British repertory theatre includes many productions, most notably The Crucible, The Tempest, The Importance of Being Earnest, and Fiddler on the Roof. In America, he has appeared in Broadway in The Weir and on television in New York Undercover and Law & Order. Born of Irish parents and raised and educated in England, Gerard has taught drama at Ross School for the past several years.

MY REVIEW:

THEREBY HANGS A TALE by Jeffrey Archer is a delight to listen to on an audio book. This collection is made up of 15 stories which Archer has gathered from around the world over the last five years and most of them are based on true experiences. The short stories run the gamut from humor to romance to thriller. It has been a long time since I have read short stories and the first time on an audio book. Being a book of short stories lends itself to an audio book for obvious, practical reasons if for no other reason than you can listen to one full story in a short sitting and stop until you have time to go back to it again. Not to say you can’t do that by reading the book, but for myself, it is a the perfect way to relax for a few minutes and rest my eyes if I only have time for a mini-break.

Jeffrey Archer is not new to short stories as this is his sixth collection. He has a way of picking what I feel are just the right length, kind, and variety of genres. Five of the stories were written strictly by Archer himself.  The remaining ten of the fifteen stories in THEREBY HANGS A TALE are based on stories Jeffrey Archer found while he was traveling for about the last six years.

Archer shows why he is a bestselling author with his natural talent in creating intriguing characters and writing well developed stories that are inventive and entertaining. With the perfect amount of humor or suspense, each story is very different but all come with the cunning twist at the end and are reminiscent of O’ Henry. This is a real treat for the reader, or in this case, the listener.

Story Titles:

   1. "Stuck on You"
   2. "The Queen's Birthday Telegram"
   3. "High Heels"
   4. "Blind Date"
   5. "Where There's a Will"
   6. "Double-Cross"
   7. "'I Will Survive'"
   8. "A Good Eye"
   9. "Members Only"
  10. "The Undiplomatic Diplomat"
  11. "The Luck of the Irish"
  12. "Politically Correct"
  13. "Better the Devil You Know"
  14. "No Room at the Inn"
  15. "Caste-Off"

It is interesting that Archer wrote five of the stories and collected ten others through his travels.

I think a short story collection like this would lend itself well to my needs. My commute isn't very long, so stopping and starting wouldn't be such an issue! Haven't read an Archer in quite a while, he still sounds great!

This sounds amazing, I want to win this book because I love the concept of telling stories from around the globe and how each individual story is unique to wherever the author was visiting at the time.
