SCONES & BONES
A TEA SHOP MYSTERY
BY LAURA CHILDS

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Indigo Tea Shop owner Theodosia Browning is lured into attending the Heritage Society's "Pirates and Plunder" soiree. But it's an antique diamond skull ring that gets plundered by someone who murders a history intern in the process. Theodosia knows she'll have to whet her investigative skills to find the killer among a raft of suspects.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Laura Childs is the New York Times bestselling author of the Cackleberry Club, Tea Shop, and Scrapbooking mysteries. In her past life she was a Clio Award–winning advertising writer and CEO of her own marketing firm. She lives in Plymouth, Minnesota.

A YUMMY RECIPE FROM SCONES & BONES:
LEMON SCONES
from SCONES & BONES by Laura Childs
INGREDIENTS:
3 cups all purpose, unbleached flour
1 Tbsp baking powder
½ cup sugar
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
1 ½ sticks unsalted butter, cut into cubes
1 cup buttermilk
zest of one lemon
½ cup walnuts or pecans (optional)
1 egg
DIRECTIONS:
Sift together flour, baking powder, and baking soda in a large bowl.

In a separate bowl, combine lemon zest and sugar, using a spoon to firmly grind it all together.  Add the sugar to the flour mixture and mix well.

Cut butter into mixture until you get an even, crumbly consistency.  Mix in nuts.  Pour in the buttermilk and stir thoroughly until mixture forms a dense dough.

Take a good sized lump of dough and gently form into a triangular scone shape.

Place scone on a baking sheet lined with parchment, then continue forming scones until mixture is used up.

Whisk an egg with 1 Tbsp of water to form egg wash, then brush egg wash on top of each scone.

Bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown

Just the fact that this book was written by Laura Childs means that it is a winner. Also, my mouth will be watering for the lemon scones. In fact my favorite scone is lemon poppy seed.
