THE MONTH OF JUNE! AN INTERVIEW
WITH AUTHOR WENDY ROBERTS!

GIVEAWAY ENDED
DROP DEAD BEAUTY
DROP DEAD BEAUTY
A Ghost Dusters Mystery
BY WENDY ROBERTS
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Crime scene cleaner and amateur medium Sadie
Novak’s ability to talk to the dead is a sure-fire way
to solve crimes, but sometimes Sadie thinks she’d
prefer a channel into the minds of the living instead...
While attempting to renew her relationship with on-again-off-again boyfriend Zack, Sadie discovers something that throws her romantic plans for a loop. With her love life in shambles, Sadie needs a distraction from all the drama. But sometimes, getting what you wish for isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
For the first time, the noble detective who’s
repeatedly saved Sadie’s backside finds himself on the
wrong end of a homicide investigation. Sadie is determined
to prove that Dean Petrovich was framed for his
ex-wife’s murder. But when her investigative trip to
the crime scene—a luxurious day spa—puts the
killer hot on her trail, Sadie will have to put all of her
problems aside to keep from dropping dead..
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Wendy Roberts was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada, where she fended off frost bite in winter and
mosquito bites in summer.
At the tender age of eight Wendy's writing career sprouted and she wrote the poignant tale of a cup of flour's journey to become a birthday cake. It received mixed reviews from her peers. After a hiatus that lasted a few decades, she rediscovered her muse.
An armchair sleuth, fan of all things mysterious but a huge chicken at heart, Wendy's mind is often in a secretive, cloak and dagger world of intrigue. In reality her physical presence is frequently required in more commonplace paternal duties like chauffeur, chef and referee.
Wendy resides in the Pacific Northwest along with her husband and four children. She is currently at work on her next novel.

1. Where did you get the inspiration or idea for this book?
I belong to Crimescenewriter, an author information group with law enforcement professionals who routinely answer questions. While obtaining details about a crime scene scenario I was informed about trauma cleaning professionals. My imagination took it from there!
2. How did the title of your book come about?
Drop Dead Beauty felt like a great play on words that encompassed the idea of a day at the spa turned to murder.
3. Do you see yourself in your characters? Which characters are easiest or more difficult to write?
I’d like to think that a part of me winds up in each character. Mostly, they are a combination and mixture of people and personalities that I come across every day. It is true that if you cut me off in traffic, I’ll probably kill you in a book! I usually relate best to my protagonist and find it more difficult to write the darker characters.
4. What books would you say have made the biggest impression on you, especially starting out? What are you currently reading?
Growing up I quickly devoured all the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boy Mysteries I could get my hands on and, as I got older, I never lost my love of the mystery genre. I read widely across all genres now and I’m currently reading Allison Brennan’s book, Reckless.
5. What is the next or current book/project you are working on?
Drop Dead Beauty (Ghost Dusters 5) just came out May 21st and I’ve written a number of chapters of a new paranormal mystery. I’m now in the research stage of that new story. I’d give you more details but then I’d have to kill you (in a book, of course!).
6. What is something about you that you would want people to know about you that we probably don’t know?
When I meet another author I’ve been known to turn into a geeky fangirl. Above all else, I am still awed by the abilities of so many talented writers.
7. What is your best advice to anyone, including young people, who want to be writers?
Get out there, live life and experience new things. Everything that happens to you is the seed of a future story that only you can tell.

ReplyDeleteLoved the interview, I would be curious to know what she'd recommend as some new titles for summer reading for kids. Don't know the ages of hers, but always on the look out for new things to entice reluctant nephews and devouring niece! (my own, too, but they tend to devour as well!). Thanks.

ReplyDeleteMy kids are all in their teens now and avid readers themselves. I did recently purchase Faerie Wars by Herbie Brennan for a 10 year old and he tells me the series is his new favorite :)
I think it is a fascinating idea to have a crime scene cleaner to be one who solves the mystery. This is great! I would love to read this one, going to add it to my wish list too!

Crime scene cleaner sounds interesting. Not always fun, of course. Kind of messy. I wonder how often they would find something the CSI's would miss?
