IN THE BAG
BY KATE KLISE
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Bestselling YA author Kate Klise flies high with her first novel for grown-ups. In the Bag is You’ve Got Mail meets The Parent Trap in the 21st century—an absolutely enthralling story of globe-hopping, lost luggage, found opportunities…and the old-fashioned art of flirtation in a modern world. Told from the alternating perspectives of two single parents and their two teenage children, In the Bag is warm and witty, surprising, stylish, and smart contemporary women’s fiction for fans of Jennifer Weiner, Jane Green, and Megan McCafferty. Kate Klise’s sparkling career as a novelist for adults has taken glorious flight!
Meet two single parents who think they're too busy to date.
And two teenagers who can't stop writing flirty emails.
This is a tale of connections—missed and made—in a universe that seems to have its heart set on reuniting Ms. 6B and Mr. 13C.

I can't believe I picked up the wrong bag at the airport. My dad is never going to let me hear the end of it.

I don't have time to worry about the creep sitting in 13C who slipped a note in my purse. I have to find my daughter's missing bag before this ruins our vacation.

In the Bag is a smart and stylish story that explores the old-fashioned art of romance in a modern world, where falling in love can be as risky as checking a bag on an international flight. Buckle your seat belt—it's going to be a bumpy vacation!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
As a correspondent for People magazine, Kate Klise covered everything from celebrity scandals to serial killers. After writing several bestselling children's books, Kate decided to write In the Bag, her first novel for adults, when she found a note from a fellow passenger in her carry-on bag.
MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
Kate Klise’s IN THE BAG is the perfect, lighthearted summer book about travel problems when two people’s bags are accidentally swapped at the airport. With Klise’s short chapters, the story moves along quickly. Each chapter alternates between one of the four different characters’ point of view. In a nod to social media, some of the chapters are even told through email! I think telling the story in this way adds realism and a well balanced narrative. It also results in a storyline about two single parents and their teenaged children coming together in a clever, romantic journey.
Daisy Sprinkle is a chef and single mother. She is going to Europe with her teenage daughter Coco. Upon their arrival in Paris, Coco opens her duffel only to realize these are not her things. They race from their hotel back to the airport in hopes of finding Coco’s bag but to no avail. While Daisy goes online to report the bag as missing, Coco checks her email and surprisingly finds an email from the person who has her bag!
Single Dad, Andrew Nelson, is on his way to Spain with his teenage son, Webb, and was on the same flight as Daisy and Coco. Andrew had noticed Daisy and was so impressed that he slipped a note into her bag. It seems that Andrew had accidentally bumped into Daisy, spilling wine on her and he hoped the note might make up for it…and earn him another chance to get to know this lovely lady. In much the same way as Coco, Webb realizes that he does not have his bag upon opening it in Madrid and so emails the owner. Through emails back and forth, Coco and Webb start to form a relationship. They also conspire to get their bags and perhaps their parents together.
The four characters are skillfully fashioned and delightfully believable. With Klise’s expertise, readers will be able to create mental images of the characters as well as the superbly described settings throughout Paris, Madrid, and Barcelona. Klise has added these well developed characters to what is a familiar basic premise creating a charming new story that is predictably believable as well as an awful lot of fun.
