ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Kerry Reichs is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, where she learned the importance of “the lovely thank you note” and white-meat-only chicken salad. She is a graduate of Oberlin College, and Duke University School of Law and Sanford Institute of Public Policy. Kerry practiced law in Washington D.C. for more than six years prior to taking a sabbatical to write a novel. After discovering that sabbaticals agree with her, Kerry focused on writing full-time. Kerry drove across the United States four times while researching her novel Leaving Unknown, and discovered that if you plan ahead poorly in isolated sections of West Texas and find there is no room at the inn, you can, in fact, sleep comfortably in a MINI Cooper convertible.

Kerry lives in Washington D.C. and spends as much time as possible in Los Angeles and London. Her first novel is The Best Day of Someone Else’s Life. She is currently working on her third book.

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
In Kerry Reich’s WHAT YOU WISH FOR readers will find a novel that deals with real life situations concerning what makes a family in our world today. While the current definition of “family” has evolved, (I personally think for the better), WHAT YOU WISH FOR is a perfect study of it from four different perspectives. Reich’s talented writing presents the four very different viewpoints using authenticity, sincerity, and passion.

Ranging from some chick lit-like features to a deeply moving story, Kerry Reichs gives readers the feel of being inside each character’s mind as she presents their stories in alternating chapters. I was so wound up in each of their stories that it was a hard book to put down. Set in Hollywood for the most part, the main characters are so well fleshed out that readers easily invest in them. All of their stories revolve around having, or not having, children.

With actress Dimple, the proverbial biological clock is ticking and as much as she wants a child, she has decisions to make in trying to decide to balance good parts with being a good parent. Eva is an agent and really doesn’t want children…or does she? Mostly, she has to spend time convincing people that she really doesn’t want any and that is so hard for some to understand, especially her love interest.

Maryn had fought breast cancer and before she started treatments, she and her husband had frozen her eggs so that they could hopefully have children after her battle was won. What she didn’t count on was her husband leaving her without much regret only to fight her when she needs his approval to use the eggs and raise a child as a single parent. Lastly, is Wyatt, who is a high school principal who wants a child but comes up against prejudice about being a single, straight man wanting to be a parent.

All these characters’ lives intertwine and the story grabs you and takes you on a remarkable ride in what I think is a wonderful summer beach read. WHAT YOU WISH FOR is not a comedy, although there are some really humorous parts, but dealing with such a compelling subject yields an emotional narrative that will stay with you for a long time.
