WELCOME TO BOOKIN' WITH BINGO'S"
ARE YOU LISTENING? DAY"
I AM EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE TODAY'S
AUDIO BOOK CHOICE.....
*******************************************
PRIVATE DOWN UNDER
READ BY TIM WRIGHT
BY JAMES PATTERSON
AND MICHAEL WHITE

ABOUT THE AUDIO BOOK:
The world's most exclusive detective agency opens a new office - in Australia!

With the best detectives in the business, cutting edge technology and offices around the globe, there is no investigation company quite like Private. Now, at a glittering launch party overlooking the iconic Opera House, Private Sydney throws open its doors . . .

Craig Gisto and his newly formed team have barely raised their glasses, however, when a young Asian man, blood-soaked and bullet-ridden, staggers into the party, and what looks like a botched kidnapping turns out to be a whole lot more.

Within days the agency's caseload is full. But it is a horrific murder in the wealthy Eastern Suburbs and the desperate search for a motive that stretches the team to the limit. Stacy Friel, friend of the Deputy Commissioner of NSW Police, isn't the killer's first victim - and as the bodies mount up she's clearly not the last . . .

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
James Patterson has had more New York Times bestsellers than any other writer, ever, according to Guinness World Records. Since his first novel won the Edgar Award in 1977 James Patterson's books have sold more than 240 million copies. He is the author of the Alex Cross novels, the most popular detective series of the past twenty-five years, including Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. Mr. Patterson also writes the bestselling Women's Murder Club novels, set in San Francisco, and the top-selling New York detective series of all time, featuring Detective Michael Bennett. He writes full-time and lives in Florida with his family.

Michael White, Former Thompson Twin, is now a globally bestselling author of 38 books. He has the unique distinction of being the only person in the world who has appeared in three Top 10 charts - as a novelist, as a non-fiction writer and as a pop star.
Michael has sold over 2 million books in 40 languages. He has appeared on TV and Radio around the world.

SOME OTHER "PRIVATE" BOOKS BY JAMES PATTERSON:

PRAISE FOR THE PRIVATE SERIES:
"A thrill-a-minute, plot-driven story full of twists and turns...an addictive read from first page to last." (BookReporter.com on Private Games).

"[A] classy thriller...clips along with twists and turns that come at you from all angles...The talented writing team has scorched the road of suspense and set it on fire." (NightsandWeekends.com on Private: #1 Suspect).

"Jack Morgan is a great protagonist...Bring on even more Private." (TheMysteryReader.com on Private).

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
James Patterson teams up this time with Michael White for his latest in the PRIVATE Series: PRIVATE DOWN UNDER. Set in Australia, the mystery begins from the gala opening of their office in Sydney. With the new Private team headed up by Craig Gisto, things get off to a quick start as a bullet riddled man stumbles into their grand opening party. At first it is thought to be a kidnapping case gone bad but turns out to be way more than that. As the action picks up and the cases are added to the PRIVATE AUSTRALIA agency, there is one case that tops them all. It develops into what appears to be a possible serial killer on the loose and Craig and the gang race to try and get one step ahead of this killer.

I did find several troubling things in the way this addition to the PRIVATE Series was written and one in particular was the setting. I am a real nut about creating mental images for readers to feel like they are there in the book. I did not feel like I was in Australia for the most part. Many typical Australian places and sights were named but they could have easily been substituted with another country’s and the book would have been much the same. The characters were interesting enough but also could have been pulled from most any Patterson novel.

Trademark short chapters kept me reading/listening to see where this book would go as I am a fan but have to tell it like it is and PRIVATE DOWN UNDER was just an OK audio book. Not one of his best, for sure. I am looking forward to listening to BURN, out next, so watch for that review soon and we shall hope it is back to the better James Patterson who has kept me a loyal fan all these years.

  1. Audiobook Monday, how fun! Good review Bingo, but too bad about the Australian setting, that part of the synopsis was the part I was most excited about! Thanks!

  4. Some of the best of James Patterson were the ones that he wrote alone. I often wonder how much he really contributes to these later novels.

  5. That is too bad about the setting being neglected. One of my favorite mysteries had me wanting to get on the next plane to Hawaii. Hope that the Burn one does better.
