While Dumpe relatives and society members use the occasion to dust off old grudges, Jaymie Leighton prefers to adorn the kitchen with authentic Depression Era furnishings. A collection of vintage wooden mallets found in the house is a perfect addition to her display, but one also offers a late-night intruder the perfect weapon to knock Jaymie unconscious before escaping.

Though the attack has everyone on edge, nothing is missing from the house. Perhaps it was merely a vagrant who thought the place was still abandoned. But when Dumpe Manor’s resident historian is murdered with a mallet from the same collection, it’s time for Jaymie to turn up the heat on the investigation before someone else becomes history.

Victoria Hamilton is a pseudonym for national bestselling author Donna Lee Simpson, who is also a collector of vintage cookware and recipes.

"There was never a time when I didn't want to be a writer, and it was how I always defined myself. But even when I wasn't writing -- which at first was most of the time! -- I was reading. Since the moment my mom handed me an Agatha Christie book when I was twelve, I've been a devoted mystery fan, and the passion lives on!

It may seem odd, then, that I started my writing career as a Regency romance author, gradually moving to the paranormal romance, and then historical mystery writing. I truly enjoyed my time writing romance, and I believe that it was the perfect training ground to force me to focus on creating character.
