LITTLE PINK HOUSE: A True Story of Defiance and Courage Audio Book by Jeff Benedict----MY REVIEW:

LITTLE PINK HOUSE tells the story Susette Kelo’s personal battle against the Supreme Court in what might look like someone fighting to keep her home but really is much more than that. With all of the foreclosures and the current economic state our country is currently in, this makes LITTLE PINK HOUSE even more interesting and topical.

In 1997, when Kelo realized her marriage was no longer going to make it, she moved out of her house in the country and went to live on her own. She chose a fixer upper in New London, Connecticut, in an area along a waterfront to move to. She began to work on making it her own. She didn’t know that in 1998, the New London Development Corporation was trying to buy up the homes in that very area in order to sell the land to Pfizer so Pfizer could build their research center there.

When Susette and several neighbors refused to sell their homes and property, the city of New London and the New London Development Corporation tried to take their homes using a law known as “eminent domain”. This is a law that allows the state to seize a citizen’s private property for public use.

This resulted in a legal battle in which Susette Kelo dug in her heels and fought for what she believed in. She was not going to give up her home without an argument. Normally, the law of eminent domain can be used only when there is an area that is needed to take to designate for public use, such as in the example of a bridge or highway needing to be built in that area. However, in this case, nobody was telling why Pfizer needed that land or what it would be used for.

People questioned just why Pfizer needed the land, as there didn’t seem to be any justification for doing this to these people. No economic development seemed to be part of this takeover. By the time this case had reached the Supreme Court in 2005 there was so much negative publicity that it became one of the most unpopular rulings by our Supreme Court ever. As a result of this case and Susette Kelo’s brilliant and brave battle, states now are looking at other ways to handle the eminent domain law by even amending their laws.

The valiant fight of man against the government, Susette Kilo against the NLDC and the Supreme Court, is fascinating. It left me inspired by her heroic battle as well as indignant at our judicial system. I especially enjoyed listening to this book as an audio book as I was able to shout at it while listening to parts that infuriated me. I am sure there are many in our country that would do the same if they were to read the story of Susette Kilo and her LITTLE PINK HOUSE.

Winners of this audio book recently were Karen in TN, kalea_kane, and Annie. I hope they will like it as much when their copies get there along with their bonus books from Bingo's Book Bin!

Summaries of the books from WOMEN'S MURDER CLUB BOXED SET, VOLUME 1 Audio Book by James Patterson, were recently won by Windy Cindy, Kaye, and Busy Bee, also along with Bingo Bonus books! The following summations are courtesy of Amazon.com. I have read all three of these books and enjoyed them all over again on the audio books. The WOMEN'S MURDER CLUB BOXED SET, VOLUME 2 can't be far behind as a giveaway is my thinking! (wink)

1ST TO DIE: In San Francisco newlyweds are being stalked-and slaughtered. Enter four unforgettable women, all friends...Lindsay, a homicide inspector in the city's police department...Claire, a medical examiner...Jill, an assistant D.A....and Cindy, a reporter who has just started working the crime desk of the San Francisco Chronicle. Joining forces, pooling their talents, courage, and brains, they have one goal. To find, trap, and outwit the most diabolical and terrifying killer ever imagined.

2ND CHANCE: 2ND CHANCE reconvenes the Women's Murder Club. This time, the murders of two African Americans, a little girl and an old woman, bear all the signs of a serial killer for Lindsay Boxer, newly promoted to lieutenant of San Francisco's homicide squad. But there's an odd detail she finds even more disturbing: both victims were related to city cops. A symbol glimpsed at both murder scenes leads to a racist hate group, but the taunting killer strikes again and again, leaving deliberate clues and eluding the police ever more cleverly. In the meantime, each of the women has a personal stake at risk--and the killer knows who they are.

3RD DEGREE: Detective Lindsay Boxer is jogging along a beautiful San Francisco street when a fiery explosion rips through the neighborhood. A town house owned by an Internet millionaire is immediately engulfed in flames, and when Lindsay plunges inside to search for survivors, she finds three people dead. A mysterious message at the scene leaves Lindsay and the San Francisco Police Department completely baffled. Then a prominent businessman is found murdered under bizarre circumstances, with another mysterious message. Lindsay asks her friends to help her figure out who is committing these murders-and why they are intent on killing someone every three days.Even more terrifying, the killer has targeted one of the four friends who call themselves the Women's Murder Club.Which one will it be?While the investigation rages furiously, Lindsay works very closely with a federal officer assigned to the case. At the same time, she learns that one member of the Women's Murder Club is hiding a secret so dangerous and unbelievable that it could destroy them all.

They all sound good! I think you are right about Little Pink House too; with all the foreclosures now, there are probably a lot more infuriating stories out there to be told!
