An Interview with Maria Geraci

Welcome to BOOKIN’ WITH BINGO, Maria. Thank you for coming. I have a few questions I am sure my readers would like to know about you. If they want more information, I know they can go to your website is: http://www.mariageraci.com/

1. Can you tell us anything about the next or current book you are working on?

The next book in my series comes out in November. It’s titled “Bunco Babes Gone Wild” and like the first book, it’s a fun, romantic read that I think readers will find very satisfying. My heroine, Georgia Meyer, comes to Whispering Bay to visit her sister (one of my Bunco Babes) in hopes of getting some much needed R&R. Of course, things go awry and Georgia ends up in the middle of a local feud. She also manages to get herself mixed up in a love triangle. Not to worry though, a happily ever after is definitely guaranteed!

2. What have you just finished reading?

“The Girl She Used to Be” by David Cristofano. It’s beautiful and very touching. I highly recommend it.

3. What books would you say have made the biggest impression on you especially starting out?

My first love is and will always be historicals. I’m a huge fan of Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen. I think “Persuasion” is the perfect love story.

4. What led you to writing BUNCO BABES TELL ALL? Do you play?

The idea occurred to me while at the RWA conference in Reno. I was at dinner with a bunch of girlfriends and had that “aha!” moment. Female friendships are among the most important relationships in our lives. I’ve been an avid Bunco player for the past 16 years and it’s that camaraderie and those moments of laughter and friendship that keep me rejuvenated.

5. What gets you started on a new book? A character or story idea or….?

Both, I think. Although my stories are definitely character driven. I start out with a strong character and a basic story premise, but then my characters tell me which way to take it.

6. What is something about you that you would want people to know about you that we probably don’t know?

I’m extremely hard on myself. I always think that anything that’s good can always be made a little better. Thank God for deadlines or I’d edit a book forever!

7. What is your best advice to anyone, including young people, who want to

be writers? (I teach middle school Reading to gifted students)

I know it sounds clichéd but the only way to hone your writing skills is to read a lot and write a lot. You also have to be brave enough to put your work up for critique. At first, those initial critiques can be brutal, but you have to fight your way through them and use them to improve your writing.

MY REVIEW OF BUNCO BABES TELL ALL

WILL FOLLOW LATER THIS WEEK

Here is a brief synopsis:

A hot, sassy, Southern romance about girlfriends, gossip, the game of love - and the game of Bunco. Woman cannot live by Bunco alone! Meet the Bunco Babes of Whispering Bay. Every Thursday night they roll dice, drink frozen margaritas, and catch up on all the gossip in their small north Florida town. Kitty Burke is the only Bunco Babe who is still single - which is okay - but she's thirty-five and may need to face the fact that her image of Mr. Right is all wrong. Take Steve. Very sexy - but on paper, with three failed marriages and a shady career, maybe not great husband material. And yes, his ring tone is 'Freebird.' Fellow Babes Shea and Pilar definitely vote thumbs down. But maybe there's more to Steve than meets the eye. Is it time for Kitty to roll the dice and hope that she can be as lucky in love as she is in Bunco?

We have a relay for life breast cancer group that host bunco once a month nearby. I have hardly missed a get together and more often than not win one of the prizes. So I would really enjoy reading this fun book based on a group of bunco friends and what happens to them.

Female friendships are a must, especially when you have a husband and children. My girlfriends always keep me smiling! I have a suggestion for Maria's next book, a husband and wife (cave man and woman) story. My husband and I always joke about him being the cave man and I am the gatherer(chatting with all of my girlfriends!)
I can't wait to read Maria's book. Congrats, Maria!! amers4430@Yahoo.com
