Following the bestselling GOLD COAST, Nelson DeMille writes another thriller in THE GATE HOUSE. John Sutter left America when his wife was murdered by her lover who happened to be a Mafia don. John decided to take a three-year trip around the world in his sailboat. After that he settled down in London.

So, now he returns to the Gold Coast ten years later, to attend the funeral of an old family servant. The Gold Coast, being the land on the North Shore of Long Island, used to have many, many rich and powerful people. John decides to stay for the time being in the gatehouse of Stanhope Hall which puts him very close to Susan, a person from his past. Besides Susan, however, several other past "pals" have come back including Anthony, son of Susan's former lover, the now dead Mafia man, Frank Bellarosa.

Anthony has two things on his mind. One is to bring John back into the vicious world of the Bellarosa family and also wants to revenge his father's death. Anthony wants to see Susan Sutter dead. Meanwhile, Susan and John find that the old chemistry is still there and their relationship is back on and that just puts John even deeper in trouble and back into a world he thought he had left behind. As always, Nelson DeMille does a superb job of pulling the reader in with his action packed writing and careful concern for details and well developed characters. Hearing a DeMille book on audio tape was even better for me as I couldn't turn to the back of the book and sneak a peek at the ending when things got intense. Good book and one DeMille fans will not be disappointed in.
