BENNY & SHRIMP GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED!
BENNY & SHRIMP
BY KATARINA MAZETTI

ABOUT THE BOOK:

An international sensation, this addictively readable tale asks the question: Why is it so impossible to get a relationship between two middle-aged misfits to work? The answer lies in the story of Shrimp, a young widowed librarian with a sharp intellect and a home so tidy that her jam jars are in alphabetical order; Benny, a gentle, overworked milk farmer who fears becoming the village’s Old Bachelor; and an unlikely love that should not be as complicated as it seems. Reminiscent of the works of Carol Shields, this quirky, humorous, beautifully told novel breathes new life into the age-old conundrum that is love.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Katarina Mazetti was nominated for the Prix Cevennes in France in 2007, and has worked as a journalist, teacher, and author of books for readers of all ages. For twenty years she lived on a small farm in northern Sweden, an experience that became the basis for Benny and Shrimp, her first adult novel.

I've read a couple of reviews of this book, so I know it's about an unlikely couple and their love. Thanks for another great giveaway! milou2ster(at)gmail.com

When I first saw the title I thought it might be about a shrimp fisherman. lol
I want to read it because it's about a farmer that might find love, I just think that sounds sweet.

This book sounds both touch and amusing. After seeing the title I figured it was about a friendship but further inspection shows that it's about a middle aged duo. How terrific. Isn't that the age bracket that usually is overlooked?

The first time I read the title of this book I thought it was a story about love between two people unlikely to find love because the title of the book made me think of the movie "Benny & Joon" with Johnny Depp! I adore this movie and it is a story about 2 people who fall in love against great odds. The soundtrack includes the wonderful song "500 Miles" by The Proclaimers whic I adore!

Thank you!

Well, from what I've read it seems to be about a couple of possibly mismatched misfits. But then, sometimes "mismatched" winds up being the best fit!

I'm going to assume that the librarian Shrimp is a small woman? Interesting name!

This sounds like a wonderful read! Both of my Grandfathers were milk farmers, so this appeals to me alot.
What I'm really wondering though is: doesnt' everyone put her jam jars are in alphabetical order?

I think that it's about two people because Benny and Shrimp could be nicknames.

Benny & Shrimp sounds like an unconventional story of romance in middle age. I'd like to see how this is has become a sensation.

I'm guessing it's some sort of obscure metaphor. ;) Sounds great from the description, I'd love to read it.

For me, the title implies an odd couple--odd both in how they fit together and how they fit with society in general (which the description seems to support). Thank you for the giveaway!

When I first heard the title I thought it was a YA book about two unlikely friends. I have read a few positive reviews and I now know it is about an unlikely romance of two middle aged people.

One being a librarian..What's wrong with alphabetizing your canned goods?

When I first saw the title, I thought it was about two adolescent boys coming of age. Was I surprised to read that the book was actually about an unlikely middle-aged romance! I'd like to read the book because I like reading love stories that work despite such big differences in the couple.

Thanks ~ megalon22{at}yahoo{dot}com

Shrimp in our family has always been a fond name for a small person. So, I think this story is an endearing tale of a small, shy female libarian nicknamed Shrimp who meets a shy, hardworking man named Benny. I bet this book is a great love story!

Well, this book sounds a great deal like a recent wildly popular Swedish film "The Man in the Next Grave" (librarian meets farmer -- chaos ensues). My husband is Swedish, so I'm really interested in all books and films from Sverige!

It's about an unlikely love, according to your review. Why shrimp? I don't know-Is she short? Is she vegetarian? Is she handicapped? A little person? I'd love to read the book to find out.

I think it's funny that they fell in love by sitting on a bench and not talking, then once they start talking they start having trouble. Hmm, says a lot about physical attraction vs. personality. My first comment was #47.

It seems to be about polar opposites attracting and then being so different they have to try to find common ground. It also seems to be about the power of love to bridge such differences. I'd love to read this book!

I think you hit on a grea aspect of this odd couple relationship--that Benny thinks she's a little stuck up, with such a fancy name and all. Just goes to show, there's always more than meets the eye.

I love the whole "opposites attract" angle. I definitely believe that this is true. Sometimes it works out great and sometimes it's a disaster. I ought to know! But it is never boring!
