RAVENS BLOG TOUR AND GIVEAWAY

ABOUT THE BOOK:

The Boatwrights just won 318 million dollars in the Georgia State lottery. It's going to be the worst day of their lives.

When Shaw McBride and Romeo Zderko pull up at a convenience store off I-95 in Georgia, their only thought is to fix a leaky tire and be on their way again to Florida-away from their dull Ohio tech-support jobs. But this happens to be the store from which a 318,000,000 million dollar Jackpot ticket has just been sold -- and when a pretty clerk accidentally reveals to Shaw the identity of the winning family, he hatches a ferociously audacious scheme: He and Romeo will squeeze the family for half their prize.

That night, he visits the Boatwright home and takes the family hostage, while Romeo patrols the streets nearby, prepared to murder the Boatwrights' loved ones at any sign of resistance. At first, the family offers none. But Shaw's plot depends on maintaining constant fear-merciless, unfaltering terror-and soon, under the pressure, everyone's sanity begins to unravel . . .

At once frightening, comic, and suspenseful, RAVENS is a wholly original and utterly compelling novel from one of our most talented writers.

Looks exciting. I think the raven helps symbolize those dark birds, like vultures, that may swoop in when you have a windfall such as this.

Thanks!

The verb "Raven" means to seek plunder or prey. I think that the Raven's are both plundering and preying on the new millionaires. They are "ravenous" in the appetites to "plunder" the money from the family. I think it is a perfect name for the book.

I gotta get in on this. Ravens are scavengers, and like any good scavenger they are attracted to easy prey--dead or dying or the next best thing. A crapload of money can do a lot towards making something the next best thing. :)

This does not look like an birdwatcher's book for some reason...so I am thinking it has some dark evil ready to swoop down ...meaning a good read!

The Raven is known as a trickster, often his tricks are meant to teach a lesson. I think this book is meant to teach us a lesson about greed.

Thanks for the opportunity! Indigo

Maybe the title Ravens means that some of the action in the book takes place on a midnight dark and dreary???

I think I accidentally left this comment on another post, so I'll try to find and delete!

Sounds like a great read. I think the ravens symbolize what most so far have posted. They're scavenger's who swoop in and target those who have something they want.

I think it may refer to the dark bird who goes after "shiny" objects. In this case, the shiny object is the millions and the dark birds are Shaw and Romeo who hope to go after the millions.

I think the cover with the raven could symbolize or mean evil or darkness lurking. Growing up on a farm I can remember my Grandpa always calling them "those thieving birds".

The V in the title of this book is a raven. The raven is a symbol of ominous doom. In nature, the raven is a scavenger - cleaning up dead tissue. In this book, the raven is waiting to clean up (eat) the dead tissue of the lottery winners. Death in this instance is probably moral/spiritual/ethical. The ravan could also represent all the scavengers (people) who gravitate to lottery winners, hoping to profit from the winners' good fortune.

I wasn't sure before what the book cover meant. However I have since read a review that listed the definitions of the word "raven", and now I "get" it.

Sounds like a great book! I'm sure I'm not adding anything new to what others have said, but I think the Ravens symbolize creatures who pick away at another to get what they need to survive.

Ravens are a sign of sin such as gluteny and theft. The raven is a symbol of the dark side.

These Ravens swoop down to grab someone else's windfall.

Such great ideas about the cover! I am just finishing and going to review soon but what a really different and page turning book..good luck to all!

kalea_kane said...

The raven appears to be breaking apart the word. Splitting it up. Though it is part of the cover title it seems to be forcing itself into it and through it. Kind of like the force felt in the story about these people who are just going to take what they want because they want it. Great giveaway and what a wonderful idea for a question! Thanks!

Ravens are scavengers, swooping in and taking what's not theirs, and are so successful at it that in some areas they are sometimes known as pests, which fits the plot of this novel. Thanks for the giveaway.

Ravens are scavengers so possibly this title refers to the two men as scavengers/predators. I think the whole book is a chilling "what if" concept especially for folks like me who play the lotto weekly. Very scary! Thanks for the chance.

Holy molly wow what a great contest count me in for sure.
I think the Ravens are on the cover because it stands for something Dark and maybe a bit wicked with a big appetite for foul things.

Hi I think the Raven indicates the characteristic of taking advantage of the situation and then stealing whatever you can get away with. Ravens are noisy and intelligent. They will take whatever they are interested in and distract when necessary. I assume this is what will happen in the book. MarionG polo-puppy-fluffy at hotmail dot com

generally ravens symbolize the darker nature of humanity...which could creep out in this case because of the windfall.

I think the raven and the lettering look very edgy. This makes me think that the story will also be edgy. The raven is also shaped like an arrow pointing down. This makes me think that someone in the book is going to get "taken down" maybe? I can't wait to read it. Thanks for the giveaway!

I think of the ravens as a bird of prey--- just like the guys at the convenience store that later hold the winners as hostages.

I'm guessing the the title refers to the men who are trying to con the Boatrights out of their money. They're scavengers just like the birds and are looking to get a tasty meal from some unsuspecting prey.

I can't add much to what has already been said. Ravens always recall POE for me, so I think it's a symbolic threat of some sort. I can say that more than one raven is called an "unkindness". Maybe the author alludes to that in some way.
