MY REVIEW/REACTION:
This is a hilarious book. There must be about 50 stories in here from lots of different kinds of people--artists, comedians, actors, and more. Some are spiritual and some are not. Some may be a little rough in language and humor for some people's tastes but I liked them all...and there weren't that many of those kind. I liked that I could sit down and read a story and be done with it at one time but usually I wanted to read on to see what the next person had to say. It is the kind of book that has stories you will want to share with family and friends as you repeat the stories you read orally to friends. That's one of the things that I think makes it a great little gift book for everyone--would be a super Hanukkah gift!

THE FINANCIAL LIVES OF THE POETS

MY REVIEW/REACTION:
Matt Prior is the main character in this definitely quirky book. This is certainly a book that I would probably never picked up just by the cover, or for me, the title either. But it is one of a kind--unique! It is a contemporary fiction novel but also full of poetry and while it is also so riotous, it then falls into the comedy category. The use of poetry and humor together to share what is going on in this character's life is genius. I found myself laughing out loud at parts. It also is relevant to our times as it is about a man, Matt, who is and has lost everything , so it will be very relatable in our current times. His dreams are gone, turned to mush and nightmares that rhyme! He can't seem to get one thing right and just when you think he has hit bottom, he goes further down. Though out these hilarious observations, we find out about his life: his history with his wife and sons, his jobs and employment status and failures, and his father. Matt's father is suffering from dementia and lives with the Prior family thus making for more tidbits to further bring Matt down but add fuel for the funny fire! I can't really tell you more than that as it is, like I say, a unique book. When you get your hands on it, you won't want to let it go...but do loan it to friends as you will then be able to talk and laugh about parts together..enjoy!
