THE 4-HOUR WORK WEEK: REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
THE 4-HOUR WORK WEEK

Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich
EXPANDED AND UPDATED VERSION
BY TIMOTHY FERRISS

ABOUT THE BOOK:

More than 100 pages of new, cutting-edge content in this expanded and updated best-selling version of THE 4-HOUR WORK WEEK.

Forget the old concept of retirement and the rest of the deferred-life plan–there is no need to wait and every reason not to, especially in unpredictable economic times. Whether your dream is escaping the rat race, experiencing high-end world travel, earning a monthly five-figure income with zero management, or just living more and working less, The 4-Hour Workweek is the blueprint.

This step-by-step guide to luxury lifestyle design teaches: •How Tim went from $40,000 per year and 80 hours per week to $40,000 per month and 4 hours per week •How to outsource your life to overseas virtual assistants for $5 per hour and do whatever you want •How blue-chip escape artists travel the world without quitting their jobs •How to eliminate 50% of your work in 48 hours using the principles of a forgotten Italian economist •How to trade a long-haul career for short work bursts and frequent “mini-retirements”

The new expanded edition of Tim Ferriss’ The 4-Hour Workweek includes: •More than 50 practical tips and case studies from readers (including families) who have doubled income, overcome common sticking points, and reinvented themselves using the original book as a starting point •Real-world templates you can copy for eliminating e-mail, negotiating with bosses and clients, or getting a private chef for less than $8 a meal •How Lifestyle Design principles can be suited to unpredictable economic times •The latest tools and tricks, as well as high-tech shortcuts, for living like a diplomat or millionaire without being either

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Tim Ferriss has used the principles of lifestyle hustling to explore the world far and wide while spending less than rent in the US. As a serial lifestyle entrepreneur and renaissance man, Ferriss has amassed an incredibly diverse and odd roster of credentials and experience for a 28-year-old. He gives a bi-yearly lecture at Princeton called "Drug Dealing for Fun and Profit"; is a world champion cage fighter; speaks seven foreign languages; holds a world record in tango; is a national Chinese kickboxing champion; and has appeared on a hit TV series in China and Hong Kong--and that's just to name a few of his accomplishments. Ferriss's writing has appeared in Maxim, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Blackbelt Magazine, Grappling Magazine, Powerlifting USA, Natural Muscle, MA Training, and Monster Muscle. REVIEW:

Tim Ferriss' new book THE 4-HOUR WORK WEEK: ESCAPE 9-5, LIVE ANYWHERE, AND JOIN THE NEW RICH looks at a lot of ways to simplify your life and get things done at work so you can go on to enjoy other things in life. Sounds great, doesn’t it? But, I am not sure this book if for everyone. This IS the expanded and updated edition of Tim’s book so it did add more useful material and includes things like 50 ideas and cases of real people who went about reorganizing and changing their lives to be a new person and become very successful. Many doubled their income and overcame the things in their life that were stopping them from succeeding.

The overall idea is that you don’t have to live in a specific place or even be physically in attendance to interact with people in your business. Technology has changed all that. Ferris isn’t saying you can start working 4 hours tomorrow and all will be great but rather that you can accomplish one of two things. One is that you develop a business with a primary goal of it at some point be totally on its own such as an internet business or information products. This means you work hard to set things up in the beginning so you don’t have to continue to be involved in the managerial aspects forever. The second way you can accomplish lessening your work time is to work for your employer at a remote location like your home and yet be able to increase your productivity and therefore eventually work less hours but still produce more.

Even if you think this book isn’t for you as you know you aren’t tackling a new business or job, there are some practical ways to help you cut down on work overall. My favorite is to be more productive by cutting back on things like email and blogging (OOPS?!). I do agree that if you make yourself NOT check email constantly and rather only at certain times a day, you buy yourself a lot more time for other things. His other suggestion that I’d love to try and some of the people reading this are already very good at is to outsource some of your work load including everything from your business, blog, errands, housework, etc. He also strongly says to take mini-vacations and mini-retirements instead of working 24/7 for that big trip or retirement down the road only to find out your life is so different by then you can’t enjoy it…or worse yet, you don’t live to see it happen!

On that ominous note, I will close this review by saying that I found the book to be a quick and interesting read…and yes, there are some parts that won’t pertain to you that you just may skip, but the practical ideas are worth at least thinking about!

I saw this in a bookstore not long ago and was intrigued by it. I could definitely use some help being more productive.

I just always wonder if I really have the motivation it seems to take at the beginning of these projects to really get them up and running before seeing the pay off.

Thanks for the chance to win a copy :-)

I would love to only have a four hour work week. But, I don't feel like it would work out for me as a busy college student. I can dream, though.

The premise is tempting but how many could really afford to do it that way if they have a family to support? I would have to see some hard facts before I tried.

I think this book sounds interesting. My boyfriend would find it especially interesting. In fact, I think he told me about this book last year. I'm sure it would have some good ideas in it.

Please count me in. Thank you!

I love compilations that focus on maximizing time. This sounds like a great book. I especially am interested in the forgotten Italian economist.

I think a 4 hour work week sounds fabulous! But, I imagine it takes a lot of hard work to develop and set the system in place that allows for the 4 hour work week. I'd be really interested in reading this book to learn more.

Call me a cynic, but I just don't see how this would work. I think you'd have to have a lot of money to start this business. It has peaked mu curiousity and I's like to read/ hear what the author has to say. As I said, I'm a cynic, but in a situation like this, it would be nice to be wrong.
