HOW CLARISSA BURDEN LEARNED TO FLY: MEET THE AUTHOR & BONUS ENTRIES

HOW CLARISSA BURDEN
LEARNED TO FLY

BY CONNIE MAY FOWLER

ABOUT THE BOOK:

How Clarissa Burden Learned to Fly is the transcendent story of a young woman who, in a twenty-four hour period, journeys through startling moments of self-discovery that lead her to a courageous and life-altering decision.

AUTHOR CONNIE MAY FOWLER SPEAKS:

Thank you to Connie May Fowler, author of the wonderful novel HOW CLARISSA BURDEN LEARNED TO FLY, for agreeing to write this Guest Post for BOOKIN' WITH BINGO by answering the following question in relation to the story:

"Can you discuss how you came up with the Clarissa Burden I’ve Got a Secret Postcard Project and how it is going (or went)?”

When the novel opens, the heroine of How Clarissa Burden Learned to Fly is having a really bad day. In the midst of her travails, she realizes that she spends an inordinate amount of time conjuring spousal death scenarios. She also realizes that she can’t tell a soul. Indeed, Clarissa is teeming with secrets; they fuel her very active imagination.

I wondered how really different Clarissa is from the average Jane or Joe. So I decided to find out and the Clarissa Burden I’ve Got a Secret Postcard Project was born. It’s been truly fascinating. I get about 20 secrets a week. I’ve started posting them in weekly batches on my website (www.conniemayfowler.com,

or go directly to the secrets at http://www.conniemayfowler.com/I_ve_Got_a_Secret_.html). I’ve been really humbled by some of them. They are so honest and direct. Some are brimming with hurt, others anger. And some of them are absolutely confounding!

Thank you, Karen. You have a terrific blog and I deeply appreciate you spreading the news about How Clarissa Burden Learned to Fly.

The comments are certainly revealing and varied. The one about eating an entire carton of Breyer's. saubleb(at)gmail(dot)com

Wow, some of those confessions are interesting to say the least! I feel bad for the sad revelations so enjoy the funny ones a little more. My favorite has got to be the person who's boyfriend parties too much so she put a little pee in with his scrambled eggs and served it! Amazing that the person would admit to that, but I laughed out loud to read it!
Thanks,

I have not read any books by Connie Mae Fowler, but I remember hearing a lot about her when When Women Had Wings came out. The book I found on her website that intrigued me most was The Problem with Murmur Lee. I love to see how one person influences and bonds a group of others together, and how they cope and move on when that familiar tie is gone.
Thanks,

Some guy said that every time his wife leaves town, he calls his ex-girlfriend. I hope she doesn't leave town too often!

I can't believe someone peed in her boyfriend's eggs and let him eat them! I wonder though if the one complaining his wife talks too much is from my hubby - LOL.

Wow, some of those secrets are pretty interesting...and old. The workplace ones are probably the toughest secrets...in this economy, maybe the all feel they can't risk telling what they saw, but the postcard project gets it off their chest.

"I had an abortion in 1955 at the age of 18." This secret really caught my attention because the woman had an abortion before the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalized abortion nationwide in the 1970s.
