WHAT TO WEAR FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE: REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
WHAT TO WEAR FOR
THE REST OF YOUR LIFE

AGELESS SECRETS OF STYLE
BY KIM JOHNSON GROSS

ABOUT
THE BOOK:

Every woman's closet-no matter the size-is a room of her own. In that space hang side by side the special occasions and the everyday, the triumphs and the disasters, the memories we want to keep and those we should jettison. Gross helps us to reconsider our closet identity and discover who we want to be. She shares her personal journey and the intimate, poignant and often humorous stories of the dozens of women she interviewed across the country. Along with calming fashion advice about how to choose flattering clothes that will fit any woman's shape and style, Gross's engaging stories will help every woman evolve gracefully from wife to mother, from empty-nester to globe-trotting adventurer--whatever role she chooses--while letting her style express her inner beauty.

MY REVIEW:

In WHAT TO WEAR FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE by Kim Johnson Gross helps the reader to learn about what she calls "closet identity". If we look at our closet, we can all probably tell a story of the life we lead by looking at what we wear, or wore, and how our life was going at the time. It also tells us a lot about what we may want to become. Gross shares personal stories to illustrate the different parts of the book and adds relevance as well as some humor as well.

WHAT TO WEAR FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE is divided into four main parts. In order to decide what to wear, your CLOSET is THE place to be! Part one addresses "How Should I Look?" and this part divides into 10 sections to cover evaluating your clothes and includes things like "Closet Betrayal" which often makes us feel like we have all we need, to "The Lying Mirror" so we can assess how we REALLY look in our clothes, and even "The Feel Good Closet" which also requires you to consider "Closet Health" (where I personally realized that what I thought was a neat and clean closet had a lot of work to be done). Each section really gets your closet and clothes ready to serve you and make you the person you want to be as Gross relates her own personal experiences with each of these ideas to help the reader understand how important it all is.

Part Two, "What Do I Want to Wear?" has the reader look at "Style Mentors" and decide what YOUR dream is and how you can achieve it. Part Three gets down to the basics of "How Do I Look?" in which we must realize that our closet is always evolving as we age. And speaking of age, "Are you Dressing Your Age" is one part that I wish so many people would read! We have all seen the middle age woman who is dressed like her teenage daughter and thought, "Doesn't she realize how she looks?". Also in the third part, Gross even discusses make up and hair styles and care. I really found this interesting as I KNOW I need a new hair style and she gave me many examples and facts to check out before I make that decision.

The fourth and final part is called "Clothes Meet Life". This gives great ideas about jewelry, dressing sexy, and dressing for special occasions like when you are the mother of the bride but don't want to look like her grandmother. With the last part, Gross also ties everything together so you can realize what it all means and how it will serve you best for the "Rest of Your Life". I enjoyed the book and anecdotes by the author so that it wasn't a dry read but really one I found myself nodding in agreement as well as cringing at so many things I do, or need to do! What it really explains is that our lives do tend to come down to what we wear and how we look. To be honest, we all know that how we look does effect how we feel and what we do. I think that everyone, except maybe Carrie from Sex In The City, will benefit from this book.

I like the idea of "Chic Simple". Some looks are beautiful, but also high-maintenance. You can tell they require a lot of time, money, accessories, etc.

In contrast, a look that's simple will often stand out because of its few well-chosen elements. Less is more.

So I'd love to take a look at this book. Please enter me in the giveaway!

I think it will be nice to read this book and do some self-introspection about my own character based on my closet...Also, who wouldn't love to get some fashion tips from an expert.

The fact that the closet is always changing as we age struck a chord with me. I guess sometimes I feel like I am in a rut because I don't know what age to wear.

It's a great idea to simplify your wardrobe. The dressing your age aspect I agree with. There's no doubt I could use tips to improve my wardrobe.
