BLACK HILLS AUDIO BOOK: PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

NATIONAL AUDIO BOOK MONTH
GIVEAWAY ENDED
BLACK HILLS AUDIO BOOK

BY DAN SIMMONS

ABOUT THE AUDIO BOOK:

When Paha Sapa, a young Sioux warrior, "counts coup" on General George Armstrong Custer as Custer lies dying on the battlefield at the Little Bighorn, the legendary general's ghost enters him - and his voice will speak to him for the rest of his event-filled life.

Seamlessly weaving together the stories of Paha Sapa, Custer, and the American West, Dan Simmons depicts a tumultuous time in the history of both Native and white Americans. Haunted by Custer's ghost, and also by his ability to see into the memories and futures of legendary men like Sioux war-chief Crazy Horse, Paha Sapa's long life is driven by a dramatic vision he experienced as a boy in his people's sacred Black Hills. In August of 1936, a dynamite worker on the massive Mount Rushmore project, Paha Sapa plans to silence his ghost forever and reclaim his people's legacy-on the very day FDR comes to Mount Rushmore to dedicate the Jefferson face.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Dan Simmons is the award-winning author of several novels, including the New York Times bestsellers The Terror and Drood. He lives in Colorado. Visit www.dansimmons.com.

I enjoy reading books, holding them and the feeling that they are special, since I am old school. But I would like audio books when going on car trips. saubleb(at)gmail(dot)com

I enjoy reading a 'traditional' book when I have time to sit down and read. But when traveling or house cleaning or exercising, I love audio books.

I love to read a book and have all my life however, I now have a long comute to work and you can't read while driving but you can use an audio book to continue to do what you love...living/learning through books.

I'm also old school and want to hold a book in my hands! I'd like this audio book to listen to in my car on trips, as my husband is not a talker! I have been wanting to read or listen to this one since first hearing about it on the blogs.

I love being able to hold a book and read it but I am not opposed to trying an audio book. I could listen to in the car on the way to and from work or on vacation. Please enter me in contest. Thank you. Tore923@aol.com

I like the nuances that may not be perceived if I read the book although I can't really compare since I don't do both. It also makes traveling a bit easier.

I have just started listening to audio books and, while I have enjoyed the few I have listened to, I don't think they compare to reading the book. I have trouble staying focused on the audio book as I am concentrating on traffic on most of my drives (I live and work in the Tampa bay area, so there is A LOT of traffic!). Being able to relax with a good book is just so much better than listening to the book to me. If you have trouble reading or cannot read, the audio books are a good alternative however.
Thanks!

As my vision has deteriorated over the past few years, audio books have been a blessing! Thanks for entering my name in your giveaway.

I have found historical fiction to be one of my favorite genres, although it didn’t use to be. Not so sure I would want to be infected by someone else’s soul and especially General Custer’s! I have read many historical accounts of Custer and through out his life he made many decisions that were very questionable and at one point he was almost court martialed for his decisions. Prime example is the Battle of Big Horn … that decision cost him his life! One final comment the cover of this book his really outstanding and this author has earned countless awards. I would love to win audio book and experience the crazy soul of Custer in this historical fiction novel.

As for my preference of audio or paper ... I like both! Depends on what I am doing. I walk everyday and iphone audio books are perfect. I enjoy paper books when I am setting.

I've never listened to an audio book but would like to try one out sometime for contrast to reading books. I'm currently reading Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons and loving it so far. Thanks for the giveaway.

Typically prefer reading...**however, I can enjoy a good audio too. Most definitely. I love the experience of a book. But an audio with a good narrator, esp on long trips, can be an awesome experience. joleehamlin at comcast dot net

I actually prefer reading a book most of the time over audio(I just like to move at my own pace & actually have the book to hold) but I have found that when I'm doing housework, driving or working outside it's really nice to have an audio book to listen to!
Thanks bunches=)

I think I prefer reading more. But it's also nice when I'm home to relax in my recyler and just listen to a great book, but the voice of the reader makes a difference to me too.
