PUT ON YOUR CROWN: REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
PUT ON YOUR CROWN

Life Changing Moments on the Path to Queendom
BY QUEEN LATIFAH

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Modeled after Maria Shriver's Just Who Will You Be, Queen Latifah's goal with Put On Your Crown is to help young women build a strong sense of self-esteem. A US Dept. of Justice survey found that females ages 16-24 are more vulnerable to partner violence than any other group, almost triple the national average. Cases like Chris Brown's assault on pop star Rihanna showed an ugly side of adolescent life. However, Queen Latifah has always been a shining example of a woman happy with herself and unwilling to compromise to fit into the "hollywood ideal" of what a confident beautiful woman should look like.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR(S):

Queen Latifah was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. The Queen got her first break in music when a demo tape featuring one of her raps made its way to Tommy Boy Records. She was signed and immediately became a hit. She won the Best New Artist Award in 1990 for her album "All Hail the Queen" which also went platinum. The second single from the album, "Ladies First," was eventually named by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock 'n' Roll. By the time her second album "Nature of a Sista'" came out in 1991, Queen Latifah had begun investing in small businesses in her neighborhood, and acting both in television and movies. After the death of her brother and a soured deal with Tommy Boy, The Queen released her third album, "Black Reign", and founded Flavor Unit Records and Management. She also landed a regular spot on Living Single and went on to star in a plethora of feature films including: Set It Off, The Perfect Holiday, Taxi, and Bringing Down the House.

MY REVIEW:

Dana Owens has written a book that she hopes will be a symbol to young women everywhere to help them in their careers and in their life all around. She wants them to have a strong sense of self-worth. Our government finds that women from 16 to 24 are the most likely to have a low self-esteem that will leave them defenseless against violence in their relationships. This statistic is three times the national average for all other age groups. Now, what would make Dana Owens think she can make young women take note? Well, that is because she is known to most as Queen Latifah! A woman who has come through life from humble beginnings. With that background and her current fame and status, she is looked up to by women all over especially that age group.

Latifah describes life as a chain of significant events with one leading to the next. She tells how for her, these events played a role in all parts of her life from love and joy, to money and success, and esteem and strength. Her message is strong in telling women to stand up and be there for each other, while using that support to reach their goals in life. I think this small book is full of solid, level headed advice that woman, especially in that crucial 16 to 24 ages group will take to heart as Latifah is highly respected for the life she leads and the honesty and love that she is all about.

I'd love to win this book!! I think Queen Latifah is such a postive role model for young people. This is what I found interesting: founded Flavor Unit Records and Management - that is a fact that I didn't know!

I have added this to my wish list. I think Queen Latifah is the best of all role models for young people today. Especially young girls. I did not know she had founded Flavor Unit Records and Management until I read this. She is one smart lady and admired by many. She is an inspiration to many women of all ages.

I adore Queen Latifah. I hope she is like the roles she plays. In each one, she is beautiful, ultra nice, strong, and intellegent. In other words, a perfect role model for any woman, young or old. What I found intersting was her name... Dana Owens. I thought it WAS Queen Latifah!

I didn't realize women so young were in danger of being hurt or murdered by young men. Age 16-24 years old is just so, so young. What happened to the innocent days of Sweet Sixteen. Sadly, I bet these girls feel responsible for what happens in their young lives.

I would like to read this book because I admire Latifah. For all her celebrity, she seems to be grounded and a wholesome person. I like her attitude and humor. I would like to learn more about her.
