CHEAP CABERNET: PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
CHEAP CABERNET

BY CATHIE BECK

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Cathie Beck was in her late thirties and finally able to exhale after a lifetime of just trying to get by. A teenage mother harboring vivid memories of her own hardscrabble childhood, Cathie had spent years doing whatever it took to give her children the stability—or at least the illusion of it—that she’d never had. More than that, through sheer will and determination, she had educated them and herself too. With her kids in college, Cathie was at last ready to have some fun. The only problem was that she had no idea how to do it and no friends to do it with. So she put an ad in the paper for a made-up women's group: WOW . . . Women on the Way. Eight women showed up that first night, and out of that group a friendship formed, one of those meteoric, passionate, stand-by-you friendships that come around once in a lifetime and change you forever . . . if you’re lucky.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Cathie Beck is a Denver-based journalist and creative writer who has been, at various times, a baton-twirling teacher, a cocktail waitress, a secretary, and a writing teacher. This is her first book.

This memoir sounds so good because it is easy to imagine and (for many) relate to the issue of raising your children and finding yourself with nothing and no one to lean on once they go. Sounds really good! I haven't read a memoir in a while, but I really liked the Christopher Reave's memoir when it came out...very inspirational!

Hi! This looks like a book I would enjoy reading. The only book that I can remember that is sorta of a memoir is Maya Angelou's "I know why the caged bird sings". It was a very powerful book to read. Brought up a lot of emotions.

I would like to win this memoir for two reasons. The first is that I love to read about strong women. The second is that I am on the hunt for Colorado based authors to feature on the literary road trip. The most recent memoir that I read was The Glass Castle.

I love reading about women's friendships. The premise of the way the friendship develops sounds so neat. A memoir that I read that still stays with me and also on my bookshelf is Jennifer Lauck's "Blackbird A Childhood Lost & Found"

It sounds like she is a terrific person. I raised my son alone but no way I would teach him, too.

Permission Slips by Sherrie Shepherd is sort of a memoir, isn't it?

I just read always looking up by micheal j. fox. I think it sounds good because she spent so much of her life devoted to her children, she didn't have time to live it herself. It sounds really good, I would like to read it.

I love to read about women and friendship. In the past, I've read quite a few memoirs. I love memoirs. It's hard to choose a favorites. If I had to choose for now, I would choose "A Father's Dream" by Barack O'bama.

I think this memoir would be good because I think that a single mom would have lots of struggles, not that I am into them struggling. However, it sounds like she did a wonderful job with them if they are in college and the fact that she started that womens group would be wonderful to be a part of.

The only other memoir that I have read is the one by Barbara Walters, Audition. This was a wonderful book.
