IF YOU LIVED HERE, YOU'D BE HOME NOW: A GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
IF YOU LIVED HERE,
YOU'D BE HOME NOW
BY CLAIRE LAZEBNIK

ABOUT THE BOOK:
From the well-loved author of Knitting Under the Influence and The Smart One and the Pretty One comes a new novel about a young single mother trying to move out of her family's shadow.

Rickie left home a long time ago-so how is it that at the age of twenty-five, she's living with her parents again, and sleeping in the bedroom of her childhood home?

At least one thing has changed since high school: She now has a very sweet but frequently challenging son named Noah, who attends the same tony private LA school she herself attended. Rickie fit in fine when she was a student, but now her age and tattoos make her stand out from all the blond Stepford moms, who are desperate to know why someone so young-and so unmarried-has a kid in first grade.

Already on the defensive, Rickie goes into full mother-tigress mode when her small and unathletic son tells her that the gym teacher is out to get him. She storms the principal's office, only to discover that Andrew Fulton, the coach, is no dumb jock. As her friendship with Andrew develops, Rickie finds herself questioning her assumptions-about motherhood, being a grown-up, and falling in love.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Claire LaZebnik lives in Los Angeles with her TV writer husband and four children. She is the author of the novels The Smart One and the Pretty One (5 Spot, 2008), Knitting Under the Influence (5 Spot, 2006), and Same as it Never Was and co-author of Overcoming Autism: Finding the Answers, Strategies, and Hope That Can Transform a Child's Life and Growing Up on the Spectrum: A Guide to Life, Love, and Learning for Teens and Young Adults with Autism and Asperger's.

The title of this book is deceiving; I would translate it as "you are late again, the locks have been changed, you do not live here."

Please enter my name in the giveaway for the book. Thanks!

I love to read stories with strong female lead characters in contemporary settings, so this one really appears to be! By visiting the site, I learned the author lives in Pacific Palisades, California and her husband is a writer on The Simpsons. I follow the blog via its RSS feed - it's on my Pageflakes page (similar to iGoogle, Netvibes, etc)

I enjoyed The Smart One and the Pretty One very much. I think Rickie sounds like a great character, showing that just because you're young, doesn't mean you can't stick up for yourself and your kid.

I found Claire's site to be really interesting! I think it's great that she went to Harvard, fascinating that her hubby writes for The Simpsons, and very generous that she offers to send out personalized bookplates to readers for their books! I may have to take her up on that.

I love the idea that this strong female character has lived a life away from her family but, due to circumstances I am sure are discussed in the book, she is having to again live under her parents roof and almost relive the life of her childhood (but with her son taking her place at school).
Thanks,
