DEADLY INTENT: AUTHOR INTERVIEW AND BONUS GIVEAWAY ENTRIES

DEADLY INTENT
THE MINDHUNTERS SERIES
BY KYLIE BRANT
ABOUT THE BOOK:
To find out about the book AND read my review, go to my first post on DEADLY INTENT HERE! There you can also comment to gain more entries to try and win a copy of this newly released, latest in THE MINDHUNTERS SERIES.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW:
1. Welcome, and thank you for agreeing to an interview for BOOKIN‘ WITH BINGO. Is there any personal information you would like to start out with today?
Deadly Intent is book four in The Mindhunters series, which follows investigators from a private forensics firm as they consult with law enforcement on particularly high profile or puzzling crimes.

2. Where did you get the inspiration or idea for this book?
This one sort of reached out and grabbed me by the throat :)  First I thought of the kidnap victim in the story, Ellie Mulder.  She was quite insistent about having her story told!  From there the other characters, the setting and the plot began to unfold.  But I've never had a secondary character take over the way she did :)

3. How did the title of your book come about?
Originally the title was Deadly Fear, because there is no worse fear a parent has than one of their child being in danger.  But another book was coming out a few months earlier by that name so we changed it to Deadly Intent...because the villain has the deadliest of intentions toward his victim.

4. Do you see yourself in your characters? Which characters are easiest or more difficult to write?
The easiest scenes for me to write are always action scenes and those that deal with the villain.  I think an author always writes a portion of themselves in their characters, although mine are usually much braver than I am!

5. What books would you say have made the biggest impression on you, especially starting out? What are you currently reading?
My favorite books of all time are Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird and Huck Finn.  Those characters have always stayed with me.  As far as what I'm currently reading, I always have several books going at once.  Right now I'm reading a Karen Rose and Kate Brady's latest.  Oh, and Nora Roberts's The Search.

6. What is the next or current book/project you are working on?
Right now I'm working on book 6, the final book in The Mindhunters series.  It's Adam Raiker's story, the legendary ex-FBI profiler who is the head of the company.

7. What is something about you that you would want people to know about you that we probably don’t know?
Well I'm also a full-time elementary special education teacher, which people find a bit surprising after reading one of my books!

8. Do you own an eReader of any kind and how do you feel about their impact on books, as well as you as an author?
I don't see myself ever owning an e-reader.  I like the feel of books in my hands and the smell of them!  I like turning the pages.  I spend so much time at the computer I want to get away from all electronic devices when I read.  Piracy is a real problem these days and it's impacting all authors.  I know more stories than I can count of authors who are being dropped by their companies or series that aren't being picked up because sales dropped.  Sales are being impacted by the number of people downloading the books for free.

9. What is your advice to anyone, including young people, who want to be writers?
Write!  The act of writing is deeply personal and empowering.  Even if no one else ever reads it, I think writing is very cathartic.  Aspiring writers should get in the practice of finishing their works, rather than stopping to start something new.  At some point we all have to get used to writing the story from beginning to end, through the hard or boring parts.  We learn the most by completing the entire book.

I find interesting her opinion about e-books. I feel the same way, but I suspect we're a dying breed!

A question I would ask: does reading other authors affect how you write?

This release sounds compelling and I wonder how she has time to devote to writing as well as a full time job. saubleb(at)gmail(dot)com

Jane, I'm not under contract with Silhouette at this time but I never say never :) We'll have to wait and see what contract talks bring after the first of the year.

Rhapsody, I think reading truly excellent authors inspire me to write and do my best. I don't think they impact *how* I write. We each have a unique voice and I'm not sure I could change mine if I wanted to.

Petite, I love reading romantic suspense and straight thrillers. My reading time has seriously been eaten away by my writing time. It's a thrill for me to judge the Rita and International Thriller Writers contests so I have an excuse to sit down and read!

Traveler, we love to go tropical when we go away. Punta Cana is our current favorite!

I found her comment on ereader to be interesting. I am not a writer, but I haven't purchased an ereader as of this date. I am sure sometime in the future I will be forced into buying one as more and more books will be provided in that format. I too enjoy the feel of a book. Great interview and hope your new release is a real success.

Something I find interesting about Kylie Brant's interview is question #5, I feel the same as she does about "To Kill a Mockingbird."

If I can, another thing I find interesting about Kylie Brant is that she finds the time to write great books and be a Special Ed teacher, that's dedication.
