WELCOME TO

"ARE YOU LISTENING? DAY"
I AM EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THIS FRIDAY'S
"ARE YOU LISTENING? DAY"
AUDIO BOOK CHOICE IS.....
GIVEAWAY ENDED
TALK SHOW
BY DICK CAVETT

ABOUT THE AUDIO BOOK:

The legendary talk show host's humorous reminiscences and pointed commentary on the great figures he has known, and culture and politics today

For years, Dick Cavett played host to the nation's most famous personalities on his late-night talk show.

In this humorous and evocative book, we get to hear Cavett's best tales, as he recounts great moments with the legendary entertainers who crossed his path and offers his own trenchant commentary on contemporary American culture and politics.

Pull up a chair and listen to Cavett's stories about one-upping Bette Davis, testifying on behalf of John Lennon, confronting Richard Nixon, scheming with John Updike, befriending William F. Buckley, and palling around with Groucho Marx. Sprinkled in are tales of his childhood in Nebraska in the 1940s and 1950s, where he honed his sense of comic timing and his love of magic.

Cavett is also a wry cultural observer, looking at America today and pointing out the foibles that we so often fail to notice about ourselves. And don't even get him started on politicians. A generation of Americans ended their evenings in Dick Cavett's company; Talk Show is a way to welcome him back.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Dick Cavett was the host of The Dick Cavett Show, which aired on ABC from 1968 to 1975 and on PBS from 1977 to 1982. He also hosted talk shows on the USA, HBO, and CNBC cable networks. He is the coauthor of Cavett and Eye on Cavett, and since 2007 he has written an online opinion column for The New York Times. He lives in New York City and Montauk, New York.

MY REVIEW:
In THE TALK SHOW, readers/listeners get the joy of listening to an American legend in his own way, Dick Cavett. A celebrated talk show host, author, and writer, Cavett shares his fascinating interviews with some of the most famous people from over the years. He is the talk show host who for most of us, was known as the “intelligent” interviewer…and in comparison to many, that is surely true. From Bette Davis to Norman Mailer, from Katherine Hepburn to Richard Burton, Dick Cavett shares his memories from these interviews with all of us. He, of course, includes his special friendship and stories with Groucho Marx as well. I thought the last part about John Wayne was very special.

As the son of an English teacher, Cavett is well-spoken as well as out spoken. He doesn’t hold back and goes right to the heart of the matter. As an intelligent man, he gives readers an education while you enjoy listening to him as well. He is easy to listen to and the stories of what went on behind the scenes is exciting because the majority of us would never know all that.

I think one part I especially liked was when Dick Cavett talked about his personal life growing up as well as his battle with depression. For me, it made him more approachable and “real”. The last disc in the audio book has some videos that are quite amazing. Seeing people like John Updike, Richard Burton, and John Cheever was exciting as well. This disc will play on your computer and not your standard player (well, not mine anyway).

THE TALK SHOW Audio Book is an interesting time spent with someone many people enjoyed over the years, while for some, it will be a new person to learn from and enjoy!

Audio: He needed to turn the comedians he wrote for on in his head so he could write for them in their voice.

It's funny, I just watched his show last week where he interviewed Alfred Hitcock. It was really good. I would like to find out more about the other interviews. I never knew he suffered from depression.

I always have been a fan of Dick Cavett. I remember getting together with my mother to watch his show. One of the shows that really stood out for me was when he interviewed Bobby Kennedy.
I really like the idea of having this book on a DVD. It will be wonderful to hear his voice again.

Audio: I loved the part about him thinking did he have in him to do 52 columns and that he dreamed of 52 of them marching towards him. We must be similar because I had a similiar dream when I was working on an ambitious project that the parts of it were marching towards me.

How could Jack Parr tell him not to do interviews? He is so good with interviews.

I really enjoyed listening to him again.

Dick Cavett has interviewed many famous people that are not here now and the memories were outstanding. An audio book would be a great keepsake.

Good to hear Dick Cavett's voice again. He wrote for Johnny Carson. I never knew that. I used to watch Johnny almost every night.

I appreciated Mr. Cavett's comment that when he was writing for other comedians he had to write with their voice in mind so they didn't say something that wouldn't sound natural to them.
