THE STARLET: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

 GIVEAWAY ENDED
THE STARLET
BY MACY McNAMARA
ABOUT THE BOOK:
It's a not-so-well-respected rule in Hollywood that what happens on location stays on location. But when a hot young leading man winds up dead in his Rome hotel room, his costar's life is about to go off the rails in a very public way—even by celeb standards.

At the tender age of twenty-three, Mercy Talbot has won an Oscar, battled addiction, wrecked more than her share of cars, and burned down her house. Her look-alike mother keeps her on a tight leash (and fueled with an endless supply of OxyContin and cocaine) and her producers demand a grueling schedule. By the time she stumbles across Juliette Greyson, a Hollywood insider on a much-needed vacation, Mercy is surrounded by photographers and about to emerge drunk, high, and naked from a public fountain. Whisking her away to an idyllic Tuscan 'retreat,' Juliette is about to discover another rule of Hollywood: wherever the starlet may go, the drama will follow.
MORE ABOUT THE STARLET:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Mary McNamara has worked for the Los Angeles Times for seventeen years, writing extensively about the inner workings of Hollywood. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and three children. The Starlet is her second novel.

I don't know. I have seen both Interception and The Social Network. Even though they were both well acted, they each had their flaws.(Interception reminded me of what dreams may come, and I had some real questions about the social network. A broke, poor, struggling student at Harvard, yea right.I have alot of issues with the movie) I am just not that excited about the movies up for the oscars this year. I guess if I was going on acting alone,I would choose The social network.

At first I must admit that I didn’t know if this book would appeal to me; however, after reading what Publisher Weekly stated about her first crime novel: “Agatha Christie meets Hollywood Squares in journalist McNamara's glitzy debut, a crime novel set in and around Los Angeles during the weeks leading up to the Academy Awards” … I am hooked! Agatha Christie and Crime goes together like Peanut Butter and Jelly! I love crime novels, Agatha Christie, Peanut Butter, and Jelly … who knows I may love Mary McNamara’s latest novel as well. I will tip toe and mysteriously drop my name in your fedora for this contest.

My first reaction was no, it is more stuff about Hollywood. I usually change channels when the gossip stuff is on TV. But then I read that a murder victim had turned up and I perked up!

I haven't seen any of the movies yet and probably won't until they finally arrive on TV. I did watch the Golden Globe Awards and the clips for the nominated movies.
The one that I would most like to see is 'The King's Speech'.
Roger Ebert (my favorite movie critic) is a four star movie, rich in historical detail and psychological tension.

I haven't watched many movies lately. I watched Despicable Me the other night, and maybe it would win something in animation (I know, the awards are over!). I saw Harry Potter in the theater, the only movie we went to the theater for last year, but those movies don't usually win many awards either!
