IN STITCHES: PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

  GIVEAWAY ENDED
IN STITCHES
BY ANTHONY YOUN, M.D.
WITH ALAN EISENSTOCK

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Another funny, touching memoir is coming out from Simon & Schuster called In Stitches - Dr. Anthony Youn's open and honest recount of becoming a plastic surgeon.

In Stitches is not just a book about doctors - it's really a coming-of-age story at its finest.  It's a book about not fitting in, not knowing what's coming next, and it's about Dr. Youn's own life-changing experience with plastic surgery that ultimately led him to his current career.  An accurate description would be David Sedaris meets Scrubs

Tony Youn grew up up one of two Asian-American kids in a small town of near wall-to-wall whiteness. Too tall and too thin, he wore thick Coke-bottle glasses, braces, Hannibal Lecter headgear, and had a protruding jaw that one day began to grow, expanding Pinocchio-like, protruding to an unthinkable, monstrous size. After high school graduation, while other seniors partied at the shore or explored Europe, Youn lay strapped in an oral surgeon's chair as he broke his jaw, then reset it and wired it shut for six weeks.

Ironically, it was this brutal makeover that led him to his life's calling -- and the four years of angst, flubs, triumphs, non-stop studying and intermittent heavy drinking that eventually earned him an M.D. Thanks to a small circle of close friends and an obsessive drive to overachieve, Youn transformed from a shy, skinny, awkward nerd with no confidence and no clue into a renowned and successful plastic surgeon.

In Stitches is a heartfelt, candid, and laugh-out-loud memoir of one man's bumpy road to becoming a doctor and learning to be comfortable in his own skin.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
ANTHONY YOUN...
I’m a board-certified plastic surgeon in private practice in Metro Detroit, Michigan. Ever since my national television debut on “Dr. 90210” in 2004, I’ve enjoyed appearing on numerous television programs including frequent appearances on “The Rachael Ray Show” and “The CBS Early Show.” I’ve also appeared on “The Doctors,” “The O’Reilly Factor,” “Fox and Friends,” “Manswers,” and various celebrity plastic surgery specials on VH1 and E!. I have written articles for “RADAR” magazine, MSNBC.com and CBS News.com. My comments have appeared in dozens of magazines, including “US Weekly,” “In Touch Weekly,” “The National Enquirer,” and several others I try not to mention. My blog, www.celebcosmeticsurgery.com is the most popular blog by a plastic surgeon in the country and averages over 12,000 page views per day, with over 10 million page views in the past four years.

I’m a graduate of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, where much of IN STITCHES takes place. I completed my plastic surgery residency at the Michigan State University MERC plastic surgery program. I then attached a U-Haul to my beat-up Toyota RAV-4 and headed out to Beverly Hills, California, where I completed an aesthetic surgery fellowship with a top celebrity plastic surgeon.

IN STITCHES is my first book, and has been one of my obsessions for the past five years. It has undergone many metamorphoses leading up to the book that Alan and I eventually created. I believe it tells the true story of becoming a doctor, without the pious, self-congratulatory tone of some other physician memoirs. Although I take my job very seriously, I try not to take myself too seriously. In the end, I’m still deep down that skinny, awkward nerd with thick glasses and a big jaw. Or so my friends tell me.

If you have bought IN STITCHES, I’d like to sincerely say “thank you.” Thank you for spending your hard-earned money to read about my story. My hope is that this book makes you laugh a lot, cringe at times, and maybe even cry a little. And, if you do laugh, cringe, or cry, please feel free to let me know about it. You can reach me via email at miplasticsurgeon@yahoo.com or friend me on Facebook. If you didn’t like my book, then please keep it to yourself.

One of my favorite kind of reads is people who didn't fit when they were kids and later they find ways to do it. I am a memoir fan and especially asian memoirs, OK,I love all memoirs. That is why I want to read this book.

I looked at his site and saw the picture of Jocelyn Wildenstein. It looks like she has become addicted to plastic surgery. I saw a program on TV about a man who had that problem. There were scenes of him begging his plastic surgeon for more surgeries. Maybe the previous surgeries didn't make them feel like they thought they would feel. This is called Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) and the author did a segment on the Montel Williams show. On the video clip, Dr. Youn says that the plastic surgeons should be saying "No".

It's interesting that Dr. Youn is so confident that you will like it, that he offered buyers a money-back guarantee if you read it and don’t like it. For the first 50 people who return the hardcover book to him via mail, I will refund you the purchase price, up to $15. No questions asked.

I would love to read "In Stitches" because I don't know much about the world of surgery and would love to hear about his experiences. I also like that it is a humorous memoir.

I went to Dr. Youn's website and I just think it is very interesting that he is a doctor yet is also very much in the "entertainment" writing business with his blog regarding celeb plastic surgeries and such.

I reread the introduction to this book and was impressed by two things needed in order to be a doctor. Non-stop studying and compulsive desire to over achieve. I saw those in my father when I was young. He came back from WWII and finished his college degree and went to med school on the wonderful GI bill. I was five when he was in med school and I remember his heavy medical books which I unfortunately decorated with drawings of people on the few blank pages. Except the drinking (my father never drank heavily) I think this book would remind me of his journey through med school.
