BAFFLING BINGO MYSTERY DAY: COME AND FIND ME - REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

WELCOME TO BOOKIN' WITH BINGO'S
"BAFFLING BINGO DAY"
I'M EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THIS THURSDAY'S
MYSTERY BOOK CHOICE IS.....
GIVEAWAY ENDED
COME AND FIND ME
  BY HALLIE EPHRON

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Computer security expert and reformed hacker Diana Highsmith has not ventured beyond her home for more than a year—not since that fateful climbing vacation in Switzerland took Daniel's life. Haunted by the sound of Daniel's cries echoing across the gorge as he fell, Diana cannot stop thinking about the life they'll never have—grief that has transformed her into a recluse.

Diana doesn't have to shut herself off completely from the world, though; she and Daniel's best friend run a thriving Internet security company. From her home, in her pajamas, Diana assesses security breaches, both potential and real, and offers clients a way to protect themselves from hackers—the kind of disruptions Diana herself used to create. Once Diana has a game plan she is able to meet with clients in OtherWorld, an Internet-based platform, using Nadia, an avatar she created for herself. Diana knows she'll have to rejoin the "real world" eventually, but right now a few steps from her door each morning is all she can handle.

When Diana's sister goes missing, however, she is forced to do the impossible: brave both the outside world and her own personal demons to find her sister. As one step outside leads to another, Diana soon discovers that she is following a trail fraught with danger—and uncovering a web of deceit and betrayal, both online and real-life, that threatens not only her sister's life, but her own.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Hallie Ephron is an award-winning mystery reviewer for the Boston Globe. She is the author of Never Tell a Lie, which was a finalist for the Mary Higgins Clark Award and was made into the film And Baby Will Fall for the Lifetime Movie Network, and Writing and Selling Your Mystery, which was nominated for both an Edgar and an Anthony Award. Ephron lives near Boston, Massachusetts.

PRAISE FOR COME AND FIND ME:
“Explores the dark side of cyberspace . . . Although COME AND FIND ME is at its core a breathless thriller, Ephron also explores the issue of personal identity in an age when we can pretend to be anything we want to be online.”
— Connecticut Post
“Psychologically astute and emotionally gripping . . . Ephron understands that the fears we inflict upon ourselves can be more crippling than a man with a gun . . . A unique and compelling novel to be read more than once.”— Mystery Scene
“Propelled me from first page to last in a single sitting.”

— Bookreporter.com
“A compelling yarn of deception and danger . . . a cautionary tale about the power of information technology . . . And although this novel seems to be a stand-alone, readers can hope that a sequel is not out of the question.”
— Richmond Times-Dispatch
“Ephron excels in creating an authentic view of an agoraphobic for whom the mere thought of walking down the driveway to the mailbox can immobilize her . . . Diana’s emotional fragility gives a unique perspective to this character’s psyche.”
— Times Leader

MY REVIEW/THOUGHTS ON COME AND FIND ME:
Hallie Ephron's central character, Diana Highsmith, is a hacker, a computer hacker, in her new thriller COME AND FIND ME. Although Diana used to make some real problems for people just for the thrill of it, she is now settled into a legal way of using her technological talents. You see, Diana isn’t causing anyone problems because she has enough on her own plate to deal with. Diana became a “legal hacker” soon after a fateful day changed her life forever a year ago. While on vacation in Switzerland, she lost her husband, Daniel, during a mountain climbing accident. She can still hear Daniel’s frantic plea for help and it is with her, night and day! As a result, she has panic attacks that have chained her emotionally and physically to her home. Ephron gives readers the  very real sense of what agoraphobia can do to someone. Here we have Diana who literally will not leave her house as she is paralyzed by fear if she does.

Diana had the help of her sister, Ashley, right after the accident, as she slowly was able to get out of bed and at least function within her home. She went into business with Daniel’s best friend to run an Internet Security Company that they had discussed before the accident. This is something that is done right from Diana’s home as she has the most advanced technology available to carry out her work. They are hired by people as well as companies, to protect their computer systems from hackers…something Diana knows all about!

This modern day thriller is complete with technology that features avatars and virtual meetings, as Diana invents Nadia to take her place in cyberspace at meetings. When Diana has to physically attend a party, she asks Ashley if she will take her place. Ashley agrees and then the real nightmare begins. Ashley disappears and nobody can find out what happened. Diana is desperate and when the police tell her the case has hit a dead end, she will not accept it. It is time for Diana to re-enter the real world because if the police can’t find her sister, than she must.

What happened to Ashley and will Diana find her? How will Diana cope? With each gripping twist and turn, readers will find Diana in the midst of a painful, perilous deception and as she searches, finds herself now in danger as well. I couldn’t put COME AND FIND ME down and can only hope we hear more from Hallie Ephron and this character.

This sounds like a very good mystery. From your review, it seems like the author really captures the sense of what it is like to have agraphobia. I would love to read this book.

Come and Find Me does gives some insight into the lives of people who have become reclusive. We always hear about famous recluses, but why do they become reclusive? This book gives a peek into their chosen world.

"Hallie wrote her first mystery novel (Amnesia) with a good friend, neuropsychologist Donald Davidoff, and together they penned a series of five “Dr. Peter Zak” mystery novels for St. Martin’s Minotaur under the shared pen name G. H. Ephron."

I think it's interesting that she wrote along side a neuropsychologist.

I absolutely love Mystery/Suspense novels, and this seems like a really good one. Plus, I love reading about protagonists that have phobias of some kind - I'd love to see how the author portrays Diana's insecurities, and how they come to play in the novel.
