AN ENGAGEMENT IN SEATTLE
AN ENGAGEMENT IN SEATTLE
BY DEBBIE MACOMBER
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Aleksandr Berinksi is a Russian biochemist in the U.S. on a visa that is about to expire. Marriage will allow him to stay—marriage to Julia Conrad. If Julia's going to save her Seattle-based company, she needs him as much as he needs her. There's a Groom Wanted in Julia's life. And not just any groom!
A billboard on the side of a Seattle road is common enough—but one advertising for a bride? It's Chase Goodwin's solution to the problem of finding a wife quickly, a wife to bring home to Alaska. Lesley Campbell has her own reasons for responding…and in no time she's the Bride Wanted in Chase's life!

EXCERPTS FROM BOTH STORIES:
Groom Wanted
Chapter One
Julia Conrad wasn't a patient woman in the best of times, and times were bleak. She paced her office, circling her high-gloss, black-lacquer-and-brass desk, her steps sluggish, her thoughts uneasy. She felt so damn helpless. She should have gone with Jerry to the Immigration and Naturalization Service herself rather than wait out their decision.
Rubbing her palms together, she retracted the thought. She was a wreck and the INS people would have instantly picked up on that and it could hurt their case. She couldn't help being anxious. The very life of the company rested in the outcome of this day's hearing. Ultimately she was the one responsible for everything.
In an effort to calm herself she stared out the window of the building her grandfather had built thirty years earlier. The weather seemed to echo her mood. A ceiling of black clouds capped the sky. Thunder roared like an angry grizzly and a flash of lightning briefly brightened the room. The lights flickered. Continued HERE on Debbie Macomber's Website so read on!

Bride Wanted
Prologue
"Let me see if I’ve got this right," the man smoking the cigar behind the desk asked Chase Goodman. "You want to rent a billboard and advertise for a wife."
Chase wasn’t about to let a potbellied cynic talk him out of the idea. He had exactly three weeks to find himself a bride and that didn’t leave space for a lot of romantic nonsense. His time away from Alaska was limited and this was the most direct route he could think for getting himself a wife. He was thirty-three, relatively good-looking and lonesome as hell. He’d spent his last winter alone.
Okay, he was willing to admit, his idea was a tad unorthodox, but he was on a tight schedule. He intended to wine and dine the right woman, sweep her off her feet, but he figured he had to meet her first. Seattle was full of eligible women, but he wasn’t fool enough to believe more than a few would be willing to leave the comforts of city life for the frozen north. The way Chase figured it, it was best to lay his cards on the table, wait and see what kind of response he got.
"You heard me right," Chase said stiffly.
"You want the billboard to read BRIDE WANTED?" The fat cigar moved as if by magic from one side of his mouth to the other. Continued HERE on Debbie Macomber's Website so read on!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
My regular readers know that I feature as many of Debbie Macomber's books as I can every so often and hope you like this one that was a reissue this year complete with TWO stories! If you don't know about Debbie by now, please check out this post of mine for more of the "Basic Bio". Meanwhile, here are some interview questions that Debbie answered a while ago that help to know her better:
1. Why did you become an author? When did you know you wanted to become a writer? Was there a lot of living before you reached that moment?
To put it simply, I wanted to become a writer because I had stories to tell. And I was always interested in people—in what happens to them and what they choose to do or not do and why—which is the basis of story. I knew from the time I was in grade school that I wanted to write books, but it was a dream I kept close to my heart for fear someone would laugh or tell me I'd never be published. I started my first book at age 30, as a young mother of four, so I had some living under my belt.
2. When did you start writing? How did you get started?
A death in our family is what gave me the courage to pursue my dream of writing. At the time I didn't know a single other writer and hadn't even heard of writing groups. I knew I wanted to write romance, so I started by taking my four favorite romances and outlining them, scene by scene, chapter by chapter. I learned the basics of novel structure this way, how to open and close a chapter, plotting, pacing and how to convey character.
