MY THOUGHTS and A GUEST REVIEW:

As I said before, THE NIGHT CIRCUS is one of those books that for me, comes along only once in a while. It captured me from the beginning and I was all set to post my review when I received Guest Reviewer, Larry DeLeon's review. He said just what I was thinking and so I am sharing his review with you today instead. As you may remember, if you follow my blog, Larry is a discerning reader and only reviews when he can find the time in his busy schedule. I thank him SO MUCH for taking time for this very special book to share his thoughts with all of us. Larry and his lovely wife live in the Charlotte area of North Carolina. 

With THE NIGHT CIRCUS, author Erin Morgenstern has delivered a book that is so unique, so different and so atmospheric that you literally get swept away. When you read online reviews, critics and readers alike are either believers or critics. I'm in the believer camp. I liked everything about this book. At a time when most fiction, however well written, is so clearly written to appeal to very identified readers: mystery, adventure, romance, espionage, etc, this book doesn't fit into any of those categories. It's pure fantasy and a delight in every way. Having said that, if you really like your mystery, adventure, romance, espionage best sellers and aren't interested in a book that is magical, isn't fast paced, is written in stylistic prose with a great deal of detail in every scene, or if you aren't a patient reader, or don't like great love stories, then this book is definitely not for you. I read a lot of best sellers, and for me they are a lot like network TV; nicely put together with no hard edges to offend, but nothing to get excited about either. Most men probably won't like it, but kids who grew up on Harry Potter books and die-hard romantics will. If you fall into either of these camps, THE NIGHT CIRCUS is for you.
