WELCOME TO BOOKIN' WITH BINGO'S
"PROFESSOR BINGO  PRESENTS DAY"
I'M EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THIS WEEK'S
"PROFESSOR BINGO PRESENTS DAY" IS...
GIVEAWAY ENDED
THE MAN IN THE MOON
from THE GUARDIANS OF CHILDHOOD Series
BY WILLIAM JOYCE

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Up there in the sky.
Don't you see him?
No, not the moon.
The Man in the Moon.

He wasn't always a man.
Nor was he always on the moon.

He was once a child.
Like you.

Until a battle,
a shooting star,
and a lost balloon
sent him on a quest.

Meet the very first guardian of childhood.
MiM, the Man in the Moon.

The Man in the Moon, the first picture book in The Guardians of Childhood series, tells the exciting adventure of the boy who would become Tsar Lunar, the very first guardian who watches over the dreams of all the children on earth.

PRAISE FOR THE MAN IN THE MOON:
"A fabulous recapturing of an old, real fairytale world. Dark. Mysterious. Stunning! "
--MAURICE SENDAK, Caldecott-winning creator of Where the Wild Things Are

"William Joyce, to put it simply, is a genius, and we are lucky to have another book from him. The Man in the Moon is filled with tenderness, love, and enchantment. It's an unforgettable story that will leave readers wanting more...and luckily there IS more, because The Man in the Moon is just the first in the Guardian's of Childhood series, which will, I predict, take their rightful places in the hearts of children everywhere."

--BRIAN SELZNICK, author/illustrator of the Caldecott-winning The Invention of Hugo Cabret

"Each of William Joyce's books has been more beautifully painted, more magically imagined and more deliciously written than the one that came before. The Man in the Moon is the latest dazzling masterpiece, the one we Joyceans, young and old, have been pining for. It instantly became my children's favorite book."
-- MICHAEL CHABON, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay

"Joyce's prowess as an illustrator is undeniable, and this may well be his most ambitious, marvelous-looking title to date. Only a sure and meticulous hand could conjure up such luscious lunar moths and battling constellations."
-- Kirkus Reviews

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
William Joyce has put his personal stamp on all types of children's media. His picture books include The Man in the Moon, George Shrinks, Dinosaur Bob, and Santa Calls. He's won three Emmy awards for his Rolie Polie Olie animated series, developed character concepts for Toy Story and A Bug's Life, and made films including Robots and Meet the Robinsons. He's currently co-directing the DreamWorks Animation release of Rise of the Guardians (Fall 2012) inspired by his new series. He's also producing a movie based on his book The Leaf Men.

MY REVIEW/THOUGHTS:
William Joyce has given children of all ages an amazing gift with THE GUARDIANS OF CHILDHOOD Series. This first book in the series gives the background and introduction to the series by telling the delightful tale of THE MAN IN THE MOON. The story itself is wonderful but the illustrations genuinely make this a work of art.

THE MAN IN THE MOON tells the story of a much loved baby who comes to be known as MiM (Man in Moon) whose travels with his parents set up the story for how he becomes THE MAN IN THE MOON. The family travels through the skies in the Moon Clipper, a sailing ship with a gorgeous golden sail. Along with them, is Nightlight who acts as MiM’s fairy godfather. As they travel to show MiM all there is to see in the skies, they stop for the night and the golden sailed ship becomes the Moon.

But what story wouldn’t be complete without a villain? In this case, it is the King of Nightmares who is named Pitch. Pitch is a wild looking villain with dark hair that flies all over the place in long braids and has come to find MiM because he learned that MiM never has bad dreams. No nightmares?! That will never do and so the King hunts them down and a battle begins. As the fight ensues, Nightlight takes MiM to a safe place to hide and then goes off to fight the King of Nightmares, who has just captured MiM‘s parents. Nightlight, who possesses a diamond sword, fights and thrusts the sword into the King’s chest, directly into his heart. A huge explosion follows! The battle ends but the King and MiM’s parents are gone!

It is only much later, with MiM still missing his parents that he actually lands on the surface of the Moon and as he gazes to the heavens, sees the constellation of stars that is made up of MiM’s parents. Content now to be able to see them at night, MiM remains on the Moon cared for by all the creatures there. From this group, the Guardians of Childhood develops and includes Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, etc. The next book in the series focuses on Santa and I have just gotten it and think it will make a lovely transition. With THE MAN IN THE MOON, children and adults alike will marvel at a pleasing mythical story but I think will be even more impressed by the amazing illustrations and central theme of the Guardians of Childhood.

Watch for NICHOLAS ST. NORTH AND THE BATTLE OF THE NIGHTMARE KING, second in the THE GUARDIANS OF CHILDHOOD coming out this week...I already got my copy and it is also super!
Before SANTA was SANTA, he was North, Nicholas St. North—a daredevil swordsman whose prowess with double scimitars was legendary. Like any swashbuckling young warrior, North seeks treasure and adventure, leading him to the fiercely guarded village of Santoff Claussen, said to be home to the greatest treasure in all the East, and to an even greater wizard, Ombric Shalazar. But when North arrives, legends of riches have given way to terrors of epic proportions! North must decide whether to seek his fortune…or save the village.

When our rebellious hero gets sucked into the chaos (literally), the fight becomes very personal. The Nightmare King and his evil Fearlings are ruling the night, owning the shadows, and sending waves of fear through all of Santoff Clausen. For North, this is a battle worth fighting...and, he's not alone. There are five other Guardians out there. He only has to find them in time.
