LET'S GET COZY: MURDER OF A CREPED SUZETTE - PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
 MURDER OF A CREPED SUZETTE
A Scumble River Mystery
BY DENISE SWANSON
ABOUT THE BOOK:
The fourteenth Scumble River Mystery yields another smashing case.

When megamillionaire and imitation cowboy Rex Taylor proposes building a country music theater in Scumble River, everyone's ready to do the boot-scootin' boogie except school psychologist Skye Denison. She's been asked by Suzette Neal, Rex's assistant and a rising country star, to investigate her mother's suspicious death twenty-seven years earlier. No sooner does Skye agree to help than she finds Suzette literally flattened — and very dead.

This has fast become a case of two questionable deaths, and suspicion seems to be hovering over Suzette's inner circle: Rex's jealous wife, a mysterious man in a black pickup truck, and the sizzling-hot singer Flint James, who also happens to have been Suzette's bitter rival for country-western fame. With a honky-tonk full of suspects and a tangled web of motives that stretches back two decades, Skye has two options: Rise to the occasion or end up as flat as a crêpe.
PRAISE FOR MURDER OF A CREPED SUZETTE:
— Pat Cooper, RT Book Reviews, October 2011

"Every time I visit Scumble River and the vivacious inhabitants my heart is filled with honeycomb warmth. Once again, Murder of a Creped Suzette showcases Swanson's skills as a superb storyteller and readers get to experience the rich tapestry she has lovingly created."
— Diane Morasco, Blogcritics Books, October 3, 2011
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Denise Swanson, The New York Times best-selling author of an award-winning romantic mystery series, began writing after coming face-to-face with evil. She quickly decided she would rather write about villains than encounter them in her daily life. She was also shocked to discover that getting a book published was nearly as difficult as vanquishing scoundrels.

Her books are set in Scumble River, a fictional small town in Illinois, and feature Skye Denison, a full-figured school psychologist-sleuth who is torn between a handsome police chief and an urbane coroner. Murder of a Creped Suzette is the fouteenth book in her Scumble River Mystery series.

Denise was nominated for RT Magazine's Career Achievement Award. Her fellow nominees included Sue Grafton and Janet Evanovich. She has spoken at hundreds of library events and other civic organizations. She has also been interviewed on radio and TV.

Denise Swanson lives in Illinois with her husband, classical composer David Stybr, and their cool black cat Boomerang. Unlike her protagonist Skye, Denise realizes she can never really move very far from her hometown. But several times a year she and Dave sneak away for a little adventure.

RECIPE FROM MURDER OF A CREPED SUZETTE:
 CREPE SUZETTES
Crêpe ingredients:
  • 2 cups flour (whole wheat flour is fine)
  • 2½ cups milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tbsp. melted butter
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  •  ½ tsp. vanilla
Crepe Directions:
Sift together flour and salt. Crack eggs into the center. Stir together. Pour in milk while stirring. When batter forms small bubbles on the surface stir in butter. Batter should be the consistency of cream. If thicker add a few drops of milk.

Heat crêpe pan, then use a paper towel wipe the interior with vegetable oil (you may have to repeat between crêpes). Pour a small amount of batter into pan and swirl the pan so the batter spreads evenly. Cook one minute then flip and cook for thirty seconds.
Topping:
Heat ¼ cup butter, ¼ cup Grand Marnier, and 2 tbsp. Cognac until bubbling, then add 2 cups orange marmalade. Stir until mixture returns to bubbling. Add one crêpe and allow topping to cover both sides. Fold into quarters and push to the side of the pan. Repeat until all your crêpes are coated and folded.
