ABOUT THE BOOK:

I've experienced a whole lot the last few years and I have a lot to share. So I hope that you'll take a moment to sit back, relax and enjoy the words I've put together for you in this book. I think you'll find I've left no stone unturned, no door unopened, no window unbroken, no rug unvacuumed, no ivories untickled. What I'm saying is, let us begin, shall we?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Ellen DeGeneres is a beloved stand-up comedian, television host, bestselling author, and actress. She hosts the syndicated talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and was also a judge on American Idol in its ninth season in 2009. 

DeGeneres has hosted both the Academy Awards and the Primetime Emmys. As a film actress, she starred in Mr. Wrong, appeared in EDtv and The Love Letter, and provided the voice of Dory in the Disney-Pixar animated film Finding Nemo, for which she awarded a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress, the first and only time a voice acting won a Saturn Award. She also starred in two television sitcoms, Ellen from 1994 to 1998 and The Ellen Show from 2001 to 2002. She has won twelve Emmys and numerous awards for her work and charitable efforts. 

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
SERIOUSLY…I’M KIDDING by Ellen DeGeneres is the comedian’s third book and if you don’t laugh while reading this book, then I think you did take it SERIOUSLY! If you are expecting an autobiography or tell-all book, this isn’t the book for you. If you want to just sit and feel like Ellen is talking directly to you, then this IS the book for you. After I read it, I wished I had done it with the audio book to hear Ellen’s voice for real. Ellen’s “voice”, however, is clearly heard in the comic sections of the book as she writes using her quick wit and quirky way of looking at things. SERIOUSLY…I’M KIDDING is a relaxing way to spend a few  hours and the short chapters make it an easy book to put down when you must and then get back to without having “lost” where you were.

Whether you watch Ellen’s popular show or not, I think you will pick up on the very positive way that Ellen looks at things. She has been through some tough times in her life and if you know about that, you should find it refreshing that she doesn’t dwell on that. Instead, she is a very funny woman who has gotten to where she is without having to hurt others and make fun of people. Don’t get me wrong, she does have a way of letting you know, in a nice way, of things she questions or doesn’t think are right. I can always picture her asking questions or describing things like this with one eyebrow raised to give you the idea that all is not as it perhaps seems. However, she thankfully prefers not to go into the muck of gossip! 

When Ellen tells you about something really important in her life, she can do it comically but also get across how significant it really is. An example is her chapter on having a colonoscopy and a mammogram. When she finishes the amusing section, she also adds in a somewhat serious, as well as positive way, the message of the importance of everyone having these tests  It is one of my favorite chapters as well as the one on her “Bucket List” and the one on “Gambling Tips“. When she writes about children and having one, it is really cute but also poignant in many ways. The chapter I liked probably the best and found easiest to laugh at was the one titled “Meditation“ and you will see what I mean when you read the book. Ellen ends the book with her light, seriously funny tone in letting readers KNOW what a nice person she really is. If nothing else, I can’t imagine anyone reading this book and not feeling like Ellen is a real person who loves life and cares about her fellow human beings. But SERIOUSLY…I’M KIDDING is the kind of book that you will enjoy and I’d be surprised if fans of Ellen don’t enjoy it and if she doesn’t pick up a bunch of new fans after they read it.
