LET'S GET COZY-BLOGIVERSARY GIVEAWAY: DAY TWO'S FIRST BOOK: PLAN BEE: AUTHOR Q&A WITH GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
PLAN BEE
A Queen Bee Mystery
BY HANNAH REED
 ABOUT THE BOOK:
Moraine’s annual Harmony Festival is anything but harmonious for Story Fischer. She’s lost this year’s Honey Queen crown to the town’s biggest shoplifter, her domineering mother wants Story’s beehive banned from The Wild Clover festival booth, and a visiting twelve-year-old genius is wreaking havoc with his explosive science experiments...

Then Story stumbles upon a dead body in the cemetery, only to have it disappear—and then reappear during the festival parade. When her mother begins dating the prime suspect and the young scientist goes missing, Story is determined to get to the bottom of this murder. It’s up to her to make a beeline for the truth before everything in Moraine blows sky high.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Hannah Reed is the pen name of author Deb Baker.
http://deb-baker.blogspot.com

As Deb (her real name) she has authored The Gertie Johnson Backwoods Adventures and The Dolls To Die For Series.

In her youth, Deb dreamed of working as a private investigator or as an undercover cop. So when Deb began writing a new series, the Queen Bee mysteries, she did something she always wanted to do -- she went undercover with an alias!

Hannah was one of her all-time favorite names. Reed was her great-grandmother’s maiden name. So she put the two together.

As it turns out, the author Hannah Reed is much younger than Deb Baker. She’s also more daring, more willing to step right into the midst of any sticky situation, and she’s not afraid to tell it like it is.

As Deb says, “Look out! When Hannah’s around, big trouble is sure to follow."
FROM THE BERKLEY PRIME CRIME NEWSLETTER:

PLAN BEE:                Q&A with Hannah Reed

1)  For our readers new to the Queen Bee Mystery series, can you tell us a little about Story Fischer and where we last left her? Story Fischer lives in Moraine, Wisconsin, and owns The Wild Clover, the town’s only grocery store. She is also a beekeeper, which doesn’t sit too well with some of the locals. Story grew up here, so she knows everybody, including the police chief (he doesn’t like her) and a hot cop with a K-9 partner, who was her boyfriend back in high school. Her mom, sister, and grandmother (talk about a matriarchal family!) all live close by, and some of her family members work at the store (and shouldn’t). With all that, she still finds time to get herself into some pretty sticky situations.
2)  What inspired your interest in beekeeping?
I have a passion for all wild things — plants, animals, insects...although now that I think about it, I’m terrified of wood ticks and leeches. Bloodsucking things...vampires are okay as long as they stay away. Anyway, I’d been reading about the honeybee’s plight, how they are disappearing and how important they are to us, so making my protagonist a beekeeper was a natural. I really hope to educate my readers and have some fun at the same time.
3)  What is your writing routine like?
Lucky for me, writing is my full-time job. I like to start at the crack of dawn, with a hot cup of Teavana herbal tea next to me. Since I don’t work from an outline, every day is a new adventure — sometimes good, sometimes not so good. If I can write 5 or 6 decent pages every day, I’m happy.
4)  What is your favorite honey-based food? And what is your favorite non-honey-based food?
Nothing compares to grilled nectarines or peaches with a honey-balsamic glaze. My newsletter readers agree. It’s simple, elegant, and delicious — 6 fruits halved and pitted. Then while grilling, brush the fruit generously with a mixture of 1/2 c. honey, 1/4 c. balsamic vinegar, & 1/2 tsp. vanilla until heated through. Arrange them on a plate and drizzle with a mix of 8 oz. crème fraiche and 2 T. honey.

My favorite non-honey based treat is Indulgence Chocolatier’s dark chocolate with sea salt. Yum.
5)  When you’re not busy writing, what do you do to unwind?
I’m pretty obsessive about writing and promoting other author’s as well as myself. I’d like to find more time for reading. That’s one of my New Year’s resolutions regarding my personal life. A glass of red wine and a good book.

Thanks for this delightful "Q&A" that was taken from the New January Berkley Prime Crime & Obsidian Mysteries Newsletter. “Honeymoon” originated with the Norse, who drank large quantities of fermented honey (mead) during the first month of marriage. I didn't know that.
