LET'S GET COZY: THE WALLED FLOWER - A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

 GIVEAWAY ENDED
THE WALLED FLOWER
A VICTORIA SQUARE MYSTERY
BY LORRAINE BARTLETT

ABOUT THE BOOK:
If Katie Bonner’s late husband hadn’t invested all their savings in the craft fair Artisans Alley—which Katie is now responsible for keeping in the black—the Webster mansion could have been hers to remodel. For years she dreamed of renovating the old place on Victoria Square into a bed and breakfast. Now that dream belongs to another young couple.

But their dream becomes a nightmare when a skeleton is discovered, sealed in one of the walls of the mansion. The bones belong to Heather Winston, who went missing twenty-two years ago. Her aunt is Rose Nash, a jewelry vendor at Artisans Alley, who is determined to find her niece’s murderer, and asks for Katie’s help to do it. The case may be cold, but the killer is very much alive—and ready to go to any lengths to keep past secrets buried…
AN EXCERPT FROM THE WALLED FLOWER:
ONE:
Steam seeped through the air holes in the Angelo’s pizza box, along with the aroma of melted mozzarella, pepperoni, sauce, and spices. Katie Bonner clutched the twenty–first century equivalent of “cake on a plate” that housewives once brought to welcome new neighbors and approached the Webster mansion on the east end of Victoria Square. The day was cool, bright, and beautiful. Perfect weather for early spring in Western New York, but Katie felt anything but cheerful, despite her mission to welcome the newcomers.

She opened the sagging gate and stepped into the small front courtyard, which was littered with rocks, weeds, and remains of rusty old garden urns. As she mounted the rather rickety wooden steps, Katie noticed the mansion’s heavy oak door stood ajar. Katie paused in the doorway, squinting into the darkened interior. Yup, it was definitely ocupado. Using her elbow, she knocked on the doorjamb, its blistered, peeling paint just another job awaiting completion on the list of renovation and restoration that was taking place at what was soon to be an upscale bed–and–breakfast.

“Anybody hungry?” Katie called.

A dirt–smudged face appeared around the door. Dusty blond bangs hung over a pair of light blue eyes. More wisps had escaped the faded red bandana that was supposed to protect the rest of the woman’s hair. Clad in a grubby T–shirt and jeans, she held a claw hammer in one hand, the knuckles on her other hand oozing blood.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Lorraine Bartlett honed her characterization and plotting skills as a frequent writer for romance magazines. Her manuscript, Murder in Morton Mills, a traditional mystery, was a finalist in the St. Martin's/Malice Domestic contest. Her short story, Cold Case, featuring Jeff Resnick, appeared in Mystery in Mind: A Collection of Mysteries of the Paranormal, an anthology published in spring 2003. Her first novel, Murder On The Mind, written under the name L.L. Bartlett, and featuring Jeff Resnick, was published in November 2005. Dead in Red followed in June 2008, and Cheated by Death debuted in June 2010.  A Crafty Killing is the first book in the Victoria Square Mysteries.

Lorraine also writes the Agatha-nominated, New York Times bestselling Booktown Mysteries as Lorna Barrett.

Lorraine lives in Rochester, NY, with her husband and four felines. She is represented by the Bookends Literary Agency.
PRAISE FOR THE WALLED FLOWER:
"A co-op of artisans, one disgruntled artist, and a desperate artifice – the perfect canvas for murder. Lorraine Bartlett’s characters come alive in this tightly crafted, suspenseful plot that grips the reader’s attention right up to the satisfying conclusion.
--Kate Collins, author of Dirty Rotten Tendrils and the rest of The Flower Shop Mysteries

“Ms. Bartlett has established a plucky, intelligent heroine in Kate Bonner and has surrounded her with a cast of fascinating multi-dimensional characters. Victoria Square is memorable right from the first--a place in which charming shops, vintage treasures, and hidden secrets coexist. I cannot wait for the next installment in the Victoria Square series!"
--
Ellery Adams, author of A Killer Plot the Books By The Bay Mysteries

I used to work for my aunt in her own Crafter's Mall. In fact, it was called Crafter's Mall Etc, and it was a blast and full of the most fun yet quirky crafters EVER. My dream which I nag to my husband about constantly (okay nag is a strong word) is to own a B&B though I imagine it is a lot harder than I dream (as this description seems to suggest with bodies or body popping up). With that combo, I have to read more! Please enter me!
