I AM EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE TODAY'S
AUDIO BOOK CHOICE.....
GIVEAWAY ENDED
INSIDE APPLE
(THE AUDIO BOOK)
How America's Most Admired--
And Secretive--Company Really Works
 WRITTEN AND READ BY
 ADAM LASHINSKY
ABOUT THE AUDIO BOOK:
INSIDE APPLE reveals the secret systems, tactics and leadership strategies that allowed Steve Jobs and his company to churn out hit after hit and inspire a cult-like following for its products.

If Apple is Silicon Valley's answer to Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, then author Adam Lashinsky provides readers with a golden ticket to step inside. In this primer on leadership and innovation, the author will introduce readers to concepts like the "DRI" (Apple's practice of assigning a Directly Responsible Individual to every task) and the Top 100 (an annual ritual in which 100 up-and-coming executives are tapped a la Skull & Bones for a secret retreat with company founder Steve Jobs).

Based on numerous interviews, the book offers exclusive new information about how Apple innovates, deals with its suppliers and is handling the transition into the Post Jobs Era. Lashinsky, a Senior Editor at Large for Fortune, knows the subject cold: In a 2008 cover story for the magazine entitled The Genius Behind Steve: Could Operations Whiz Tim Cook Run The Company Someday he predicted that Tim Cook, then an unknown, would eventually succeed Steve Jobs as CEO.

While Inside Apple is ostensibly a deep dive into one, unique company (and its ecosystem of suppliers, investors, employees and competitors), the lessons about Jobs, leadership, product design and marketing are universal. They should appeal to anyone hoping to bring some of that Apple magic to their own company, career, or creative endeavor.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Lashinsky is a Senior Editor At Large for Fortune Magazine, where he covers technology and finance. He is also a Fox News contributor and frequent speaker and moderator. Prior to joining Fortune, Lashinsky was a columnist for TheStreet.com and the San Jose Mercury News. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and daughter.

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
INSIDE APPLE: How America's Most Admired--And Secretive--Company Really Works by Adam Lashinsky was an interesting audio book for me to listen to. I must admit that I am not the “computer person” in our family. My son is the tech person with the degrees and the experience working in the field, so I can only review INSIDE APPLE as a novice/outsider. However, from what I got from the book, Adam Lashinsky did an admirable job of trying to explain how the giant company operates. Not to be confused with Walter Isaacson’s STEVE JOBS biography, which I have read, this book does make for an interesting complement to Isaacson‘s book. This is not a book about Steve Jobs; although one can not write about Apple without Steve Jobs being, at the very least, a part of it since he was and always will be the heart and soul of this enigma in all our lives, a company called Apple.

Lashinsky’s book is written having gotten information about the company from people who worked there or worked with the people at Apple. That said, I have to think that I take that with a grain of salt as someone who leaves on a good note may not be willing to share the secrets that Apple guards so well. While on the other hand, someone who has a score to settle with Apple might not give the most positive or correct information either. Hopefully, the people Lashinsky interviewed even out and he comes up, therefore, with a decent understanding of the company and what goes on INSIDE APPLE. I would have liked to know more “secrets” but most of what I read I had heard before as far as that was concerned. It is interesting that people who work at Apple are basically two kinds: one group tends to be entrepreneurs who stay with Apple a couple of years and then move on to start their own companies or move up in rank at other large institutions; and the other group are those who stay on and become part of Apple and help it to continue to prosper as the commercial success it is. Management at Apple seems to be rather unconventional compared to other large corporations but who can knock it when it works so well? I think INSIDE APPLE was interesting and I hope I learned enough to be able to have a half-way intelligent conversation with my son next time the subject of Apple comes up.
