TO BRIE OR NOT TO BRIE
A Cheese Shop Mystery
BY AVERY AAMES
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Murder, revenge, and secrets: Shakespeare has arrived in
Providence, Ohio...
Charlotte Bessette—owner of Fromagerie Bessette, known by locals as The Cheese Shop—has a lot on her plate: setting a date with her fiancé, feeding the actors in her grandmother’s production of Hamlet, and planning the menu for her best friend and cousin’s upcoming wedding. At least her new creation—sinfully delicious Brie blueberry ice cream—has turned out perfectly.
Just days before the wedding, a stranger turns up dead in the Igloo Ice Cream Parlor’s freezer, his head bashed with a container of Charlotte’s signature ice cream. But this stranger turns out to be more than he seems, and his death threatens to unravel all that Charlotte has worked for. She has no choice but to add one more thing to her to-do list: find the killer before the villain destroys all that she loves.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Avery Aames is the pseudonym for Daryl Wood Gerber.
As Avery, she signed her first three-book publishing
contract with Berkley Prime Crime and is writing A Cheese
Shop Mystery series, the first of which, The Long
Quiche Goodbye, will appear July 2010. The series is
set in idyllic Holmes County, Ohio, and features Charlotte
Bessette, a feisty cheese shop owner with a colorful
extended family.
Daryl has also had short stories published and she created the format for the successful TV series Out of this World that ran for four years in first-run syndication. Daryl podcasts some of her suspense/thriller work on her website. She is a member of Sisters in Crime, its internet group Guppies, Mystery Writers of America, Romance Writers of America and the International Thriller Writers Association.
Prior to writing, Daryl was an actress in Los Angeles. A fun tidbit for mystery buffs: she co-starred on the popular series, Murder, She Wrote and Matlock. Daryl graduated from Stanford University. She enjoys golfing, swimming, photography, gardening, gourmet cooking, and has been known to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.
She has been happily married for over twenty-five years and has an adorable mutt named Max and a grown son who has flown the coop.

AN EXCERPT FROM TO BRIE OR NOT TO BRIE:
CHAPTER 1
“Charlotte Bessette, you’re a goner.” A blissful moan escaped my lips. Had I died and gone to heaven? I took another bite of the ciabatta, spinach, and goat cheese crostini—one of many appetizers sitting on the granite counter in The Cheese Shop kitchen—and sighed again. Adding
minced sun-dried tomatoes to the recipe had done the trick.

minced sun-dried tomatoes to the recipe had done the trick.
I downed the remainder of the scrumptious morsel and eyed the array that I had started at six a.m. The jalapeños packed with mascarpone and seasoned with Cajun spices had nearly seared the roof of my mouth, but the ricotta-stuffed mushrooms were a good balance. All in all, the experiment was a success. I had at least ten winning choices for the taste testing.
As I collected cartons of cream to use in the desserts I planned to make, I paused. Did I smell smoke?
I tore out of the walk-in refrigerator. Flames not only licked upward from the sauté pan on the stove, they spiraled from the twenty-five-pound bag of flour beside it.
“Fire!” I yelled to no one. I was alone in the shop. Lured by the ciabatta crostini, I had forgotten that I was frying shallots for one more dish. “Shoot, shoot, shoot.” I hadn’t patted the shallots dry enough. Water must have boiled a spit of oil out of the pan, which caught fire and nailed the flour bag.
