TEMPESTUOUS: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

 GIVEAWAY ENDED
TEMPESTUOUS
The Twisted Lit Seies
BY KIM ASKEW
AND AMY HELMES

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Recently banished, unfairly, by the school’s popular crowd, former “it girl,” Miranda Prospero, finds herself in a brave new world: holding dominion amongst a rag-tag crew of geeks and misfits where she works at the Hot-Dog Kabob in the food court of her local mall. When the worst winter storm of the season causes mall workers and last-minute shoppers to be snowed-in for the night, Miranda seizes the opportunity to get revenge against the catty clique behind her social exile. With help from her delightfully dweeby coworker, Ariel, and a sullen loner named Caleb who works at the mall’s nearby gaming and magic shop, Miranda uses charm and trickery to set things to right during this spirited take on Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
Amy Helmes and Kim Askew have been writing together since 2004, when they launched Romancing the Tome, a blog dedicated to their obsession with book-to-film adaptations.

Kim Askew is a contributor to the anthology The May Queen. Her writing has appeared in literary journals and other publications, including the SoMa Literary Review and Elle Magazine. An expert on teen fashion and pop culture, Kim has been the content director for the Webby-award winning teen site FashionClub.com since 2003. As such, she’s been interviewed by dozens of national newspapers and has been a return guest on morning radio shows. She’s covered the Teen Choice Award and the MTV Movie Awards, interviewing such disparate celebrities as Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning. With the Twisted Lit series, she can finally deliver on the promise she made her parents that a degree in Renaissance literature would come in handy someday.

Amy Helmes is the author of Boys of a Feather: A Field Guide to North American Males and Voodoo You Love as well as collection of books for Cider Mill Press that includes The Bathtub Reader, The Good Wife Guide, The Good Husband Guide, Boyfriend Training Flashcards, The Wisdom of Nancy Drew, Lois Lane’s Guide to Life, Betty & Veronica, and Boyfriend Wisdom. She’s a West Coast news editor for the nationally published Soaps In Depth magazine, has worked as a writing consultant for the Oxygen network and is a weekly contributor to The Rundown, a free daily email service that keeps subscribers informed about what’s new and cool in Los Angeles. She has been sugarcoating Shakespeare from a young age, having rewritten Macbeth as an epic rhyming poem in junior high. She can still recite most of it by heart.

PRAISE FOR TEMPESTUOUS:
"Tempestuous is a fun modern fairy tale, a bit a la Mean Girls, and completely YA voiced." USA Today

"This quick, clever read is the perfect combo of classic literature and contemporary storytelling for anyone who likes their lit smart and funny."
--Heather Swain, author of Josie Griffin is Not a Vampire

"Tempestuous is truly such stuff that dreams are made on. The compelling heroine brims with hilarious one-liners and ingenious ideas to solve this mall-besieged whodunit. A merry tale told with funny bravado, you’ll surely laugh as you race to the end."
--Andrea N. Richesin, editor of Crush: 26 Real Life Tales of First Love

"Hilarious and witty, Tempestuous will keep you entertained from beginning to end as the lovable cast of characters jump from the pages into your heart. You'll feel like you're spending the night at the mall with them!"
--Gigi Hooghkirk, Fashion Editor, FashionClub.com, Former Associate Editor, Teen Magazine

"Tempestuous is a fun modern fairy tale, a bit a la Mean Girls, and completely YA voiced."-- USA Today

"Shakespeare's Tempest gets a modern revamping in the first in Twisted Lit's compulsively readable new series. Cool crowd cast-off Miranda Prospero is a heroine for the modern age - funny, strong, and relatable. Readers will root for Miranda as she toughs out her exile at the humiliating Hot Dog stand scheming her revenge during a huge storm. Romance, Illusion, Tricks, and Treats - this book has it all."
--Emily Franklin, author of The Half-Life of Planets, Tessa Masterson Will Go to Prom, and The Principles of Love series

"Irresistible debut novel. We can assure you reading the surprising adventures of their richly drawn heroines, Miranda Prospero and Skye Kingston, in the Twisted Lit series is nothing short of thrilling." --Children's Book Review

"An exciting adventure...and a dangerous mystery. The characters in Tempestuous are relatable and the reader can easily become attached to them, thanks to the comedy and coming-of-age tone that the authors provide. Fun and light...Askew and Helmes take a classic comedy and successfully translate it to a younger and more modern audience." --SeattlePI.com/Blogcritics.org

This book is very interesting to me because of a genealogical reason! My ancestor Stephan Hopkins is supposed to be Shakespeare's inspiration for Stephano in The Tempest. Stephen Hopkins was on a ship in a terrible storm and led a mutiny against the ship's captain. After being found guilty of the crime, he begged for his life for the sake of his poor wife and children. He and his family later made the Mayflower trip and were one of the Plymouth Settlers. So Shakespeare turned him into "Stephano" and Kim Askew and Amy Helmes turned "Stephono" into "Miranda Prospero"!!! They changed the sex and made her a teen.

I didn't know about this book before. I have seen the play The Tempest twice and also have been reading all the books that have used the Tempest for inspiration. I added this book to my wish list. I would really love to win this one!!!!! I am looking forward to the sarcasm!

On their website, I read about their other twisted version, Exposure which does MacBeth.

I know how twisted Miranda is, I would also love to see how they twist Macbeth!
