TIME FLIES
TIME FLIES
BY CLAIRE COOK
ABOUT THE BOOK:
TWO BEST FRIENDS, A HIGH SCHOOL REUNION, AND A ROLLICKING ROAD TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE
YEARS AGO, Melanie followed her husband, Kurt, from the New England beach town where their two young sons were thriving to the suburbs of Atlanta. She’s carved out a life as a successful metal sculptor, but when Kurt leaves her for another woman, having the tools to cut up their marriage bed is small consolation. She’s old enough to know that high school reunions are often a big disappointment, but when her best friend makes her buy a ticket and an old flame gets in touch to see if she’ll be going, she fantasizes that returning to her past might help her find her future . . . until her highway driving phobia resurfaces and threatens to hold her back from the adventure of a lifetime.
Time Flies is an epic trip filled with fun, heartbreak, and friendship that explores what it takes to conquer your worst fears . . . so you can start living your future.

SOME OTHER CLAIRE COOK BOOKS:
MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
Claire Cook’s latest book, TIME FLIES, definitely continued a warm and personal tradition for me. Just like in Cook’s SUMMER BLOWOUT, which was the very first book I ever reviewed, she never lets me down. Cook has a way of making even the most delicate and tough things in life bearable. Her talented writing draws readers in through her marvelous stories, clever dialogue, and her charismatic characters.
In TIME FLIES, readers meet Melanie, a middle-aged, recently divorced artist who had uprooted her family and life to move to Atlanta years ago to give support to her husband, Kurt. Kurt’s job was the reason they had to move and little did Melanie know that down the road, when her grown sons would be out on their own, she would find herself in the same situation. Thanks to “the other woman“ and his mid-life crisis, Kurt left Melanie who now must rebuild from the inside out to discover that there is a life ahead of her to appreciate and cultivate.
Cook surrounds Melanie with captivating characters that move the story along. There is wacky B.J. who is closest to Melanie as well as Jan and Veronica, all of whom have their own secrets and dilemmas to deal with. When the prospect of attending her high school reunion in Michigan arises, Melanie is put to the test in more ways than one. One of these is that Melanie has a terrible phobia of highways and will drive as far out of her way as necessary to avoid them. However, that fear is put to the test when curiosity gets the best of Melanie. Finn Miller, an old beau, emails to find out if Melanie will be attending the reunion. This blast from the past intrigues Melanie enough that she decides to attend.
As she often does so well, Cook takes a serious subject and handles it gently, with warmth and fun, and creates a narrative that educates, amuses, and involves the reader. How Melanie deals with everything and everyone is trademark Claire Cook and the reason millions of readers eagerly await each new book from her, myself included! TIME FLIES from a favorite author, Claire Cook, is another enchanting tale that is a perfect summer read, but also would be lovely to curl up by a cozy fire in winter as well.

I'm curious to see if the reunion really is a big disappointment.
It is hard dealing with divorce and this author seems to know how to deal with it with humor.

Last year, I attended my 30 year high school reunion. It was the first I attended, and it was interesting, to say the least. I'm dying to read this to see if it's anything like mine.

This sounds like fun. I'd like to see what happens when she goes to the reunion. The last one I went to was my 25th. Another few years will be my 50th. Hard to believe.
