TRUE LOVE
Read by Tavia Gilbert
BY JUDE DEVERAUX

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Jude Deveraux, the bestselling author of unforgettable romance, returns with a breathtaking first book in a fantastic new series—the Nantucket Brides trilogy. Set on the magical Massachusetts island, True Love introduces characters from a new generation of Montgomery-Taggerts, the beloved family from Deveraux’s classic novels.

Just as Alix Madsen is finishing up architectural school, Adelaide Kingsley dies and wills her, for one year, the use of a charming nineteenth-century Nantucket house. The elderly woman’s relationship to the Madsen family is a mystery to the spirited Alix—fresh from a romantic breakup—but for reasons of her own Alix accepts the quirky bequest, in part because it gives her time to plan her best friend’s storybook wedding.

But unseen forces move behind the scenes, creaking Kingsley House’s ancient floorboards. It seems that Adelaide Kingsley had a rather specific task for Alix: to solve the strange disappearance of one of the Kingsley women, Valentina, more than two hundred years ago. If that wasn’t troubling enough, Alix must deal with the arrogant (and extremely good-looking) architect Jared Montgomery, who is living in the property’s guesthouse.

Unbeknown to Alix, Jared has been charged with looking after her while she lives on the island—an easy task for him, considering the undeniable chemistry between the two. But Jared harbors secrets of his own, which, if revealed, may drive a wedge between the pair.

With a glorious Nantucket wedding on the horizon, sparks fly, and the ghosts of the past begin to reveal themselves—some of them literally. Finding their lives inextricably entwined with the turbulent fortunes of their ancestors, Alix and Jared discover that only by righting the wrongs of the past can they hope to be together.

AN EXCERPT FROM TRUE LOVE:
Chapter One

Alix continued weeping as Izzy handed her one chocolate after another. So far it had been two doughnuts, one of those flat bars of sixty percent cocoa, a whole Toblerone, and a Kit Kat. If this kept on Alix was going to start in on chocolate chip cookies, which meant Izzy would join her and would probably gain ten pounds and not fit into her wedding dress. Wasn’t that above and beyond the call of friendship?

They were on the fast ferry that went from Hyannis to Nantucket, sitting at one of the tables by the snack bar. All sorts of delicious, fattening things were within their reach.

Alix had done well in the last few weeks as she and Izzy finished their final semester of architecture school. On the last day before summer break, they’d turned in their projects, and as always, Alix had been praised by the teacher to the point of embarrassment.
It was that night that Alix’s boyfriend had broken up with her. Dropped her flat. Eric said he had a different plan for his life. TO FINISH READING THIS EXCERPT, VISIT THE PUBLISHER'S WEBSITE HERE.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Jude Deveraux was born in Fairdale, Kentucky, the eldest of a family of three girls and one boy. After earning a degree in art from Murray State University and studying teaching at the University of New Mexico, she taught fifth grade in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She left when her first book, The Land of Enchantment, was accepted for publication by Avon books.

Jude’s first books were historical, chiefly featuring the Montgomery and Taggert families. Stories of the lives and loves of these families spanned over several centuries in the US and England. They are filled with details of the history and culture of the time periods and settings of her novels. Her more recent series of books focuses on the McTern family and its descendants. The novels are set in the fictional town of Edilean, Virginia, and go from when the family arrived in America to contemporary time.

Jude’s exhaustive research on every aspect of her books has made for a rich and detailed background for each of her novels. Her stories are adventurous, funny, and at times heartwarming. Jude has had over thirty books on the New York Times Bestsellers List, over 60 million copies in print, and has been translated into 18 languages.
Jude has lived in England and Egypt as well as in several American states, and she has traveled around the world. She likes to read nonfiction and murder mysteries, and work in her garden. In boxing class, she enjoys showing much younger males that she can throw a mean right cross.

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
Once again, Jude Deveraux has given readers a spellbinding romance in TRUE LOVE. This story had me from the first sound coming from the audio book. It had the feel right away of a good mystery that involved a ghost but not all the complicated paranormal elements that are so prevalent today. Rather this was what I would call an old fashioned romantic ghost story…is there really such a thing?

The narrative basically revolves around Alix who inherits a mansion, haunted though it turns out to be, in Nantucket. Alix is coming off a romance that didn’t work out as she had hoped, and now is facing a 200 year old mystery she must solve. Unlike I thought things would be, Alix seems fascinated not only with the house but the ghost as well. It also doesn’t hurt that the guest house on the property is currently occupied by one Jared, who turns out to be the love interest for Alix as well as her brave champion. The questions that Alix must face range from romantic to mystical. Will she find out why there is even a ghost still in this house? Can she unearth what happened to the ghost’s true love? And what about Jared? Will he become a part of Alix’s heart and help her solve these mysteries?

Having not read Jude Deveraux's books for a while, I was delighted with this one as it moved along quickly and was entertaining as well as gripping.  I hated to turn the audio off when time forced me to but I surely did enjoy not only the story but the way the reader narrated Deveraux’s story.  I understand that this is the first in a new series and am glad I got back to Jude Deveraux at just the right time so I can follow what is to come.  TRUE LOVE is an end of the summer treat, for sure!
