ARE YOU LISTENING? FANGIRL: AN AUDIO BOOK PREVIEW

WELCOME TO BOOKIN' WITH BINGO'S"
ARE YOU LISTENING? DAY"
I AM EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE TODAY'S
AUDIO BOOK CHOICE....
FANGIRL
Read by Rebecca Lowman & Maxwell Caulfield
BY RAINBOW ROWELL

ABOUT THE AUDIO BOOK:
In Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl, Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories? Open her heart to someone? Or will she just go on living inside somebody else’s fiction?

ABOUT THE NARRATORS:
Rebecca Lowman is a performer of stage, film, and television. In addition to playing the lead in Eve of Understanding, for which she won Best Actress at the 2006 Boston Film Festival, she has appeared in the television series Burn Notice, Private Practice, Criminal Minds, The Shield, Big Love, Without a Trace, Cold Case, and Will & Grace.

Maxwell Caulfield is an English-born film, stage and television actor best known for his role as Michael Carrington in the musical film Grease 2 and as Miles Colby in The Colbys and its parent show Dynasty. He has more than 70 credits in film, television and onstage. In the 2000s he was a cast member on the British soap opera Emmerdale.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Rainbow Rowell writes books.
Sometimes she writes about adults (Attachments and Landline).

Sometimes she writes about teenagers (Eleanor & Park and Fangirl).

But she always writes about people who talk a lot. And people who feel like they’re screwing up. And people who fall in love.

When she’s not writing, Rainbow is reading comic books, planning Disney World trips and arguing about things that don’t really matter in the big scheme of things.

She lives in Nebraska with her husband and two sons.

PRAISE FOR FANGIRL AND AUTHOR RAINBOW ROWELL:

“Fangirl is a deliciously warm-hearted nerd power ballad destined for greatness.”– New York Journal of Books

“A funny and tender coming-of-age story that’s also the story of a writer finding her voice . . . touching and utterly real.”
— Publishers Weekly, starred review

“The magic here is cast not with wands but with Rowell’s incredible ability to build complex, vivid, troubling and triumphant relationships.”
— Booklist, starred review

“(A) charming coming-of-age novel . . . filled with complex subjects (such as divorce, abandonment, and mental illness) handled in a realistic manner, and the writing effortlessly and seamlessly weaves these threads together.”
— School Library Journal, starred review

“As funny as it is embarrassing, and as charming as it is true-to-geek-life . . . Fangirl is a cute and poignant read for fangirls and fanboys of all ages.”

I don't tend to listen to audio books too often. I think it's because I can't fully concentrate while I'm driving and when I get home there are just too many distractions! I did read Attachments by this author and loved it, so I've put this book on my wish list.

I love audio books to listen to while I work on a jigsaw puzzle. I am planning on working one in next month.

I entered giveaways for Attachments but didn't win. What I would like about this story is that it character driven and has some quirky characters.

Oh goodness--being inside a teenager's mind could be scary for a person like me who never had any children. I'm sure I'd be in a completely foreign world.

I haven't read any of Rainbow's books yet, but Eleanor and Park is making news around here and I'm already on the list for Fan Girl. Thanks for the info!
