STEPHEN KING'S DOCTOR SLEEP: A THRILLING HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOOK CHOICE PREVIEW!

 MY HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOOK CHOICE
DOCTOR SLEEP
BY STEPHEN KING
A THRILLING PREVIEW

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Stephen King returns to the character and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance and the very special twelve-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals.

On highways across America, a tribe of people called the True Knot travel in search of sustenance. They look harmless—mostly old, lots of polyester, and married to their RVs. But as Dan Torrance knows, and spunky twelve-year-old Abra Stone learns, the True Knot are quasi-immortal, living off the steam that children with the shining produce when they are slowly tortured to death.

Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel, where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father’s legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally, he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant shining power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes “Doctor Sleep.”

Then Dan meets the evanescent Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan’s own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra’s soul and survival. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of devoted readers of The Shining and satisfy anyone new to this icon in the King canon.

MY THOUGHTS ON MY "BIRTHDAY BOOK":
I don't even know how long ago I heard about Stephen King writing the sequel to THE SHINING, but I knew right away I wanted to read it. When I saw that it would be released on the same week as my birthday, it is all I asked for. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought I better order my own copy as it came out on September 24 and my birthday was 3 days later! And as birthday luck would have it, it was actually delivered to me late afternoon on September 23! I am so excited about this book but alas was finishing another book I was reading so will indeed wind up starting DOCTOR SLEEP on my birthday today after all. (And what a temptation having it sitting on my desk staring at me but with will power, I didn't open it). I plan on getting my cup of tea and snuggling down all morning to start the book. I will try and let you know how I like it if there is time but imagine many of you will buy it for yourself. I know I read all of King's books for a while and as I looked at covers above had memories about them. For instance, CUJO was short and I finished it in one night so brought it to school the next day, where I was teaching, and wound up reading it aloud to my 3 teammates on our lunch break over the next few days...what fun! King's writing does indeed cover a wide range but he also is well prepared for it. I enjoy all his work and would love to hear in comments below how many of you plan on reading this one...or perhaps, already have?

Thanks for letting me go on about this one but guess it is the anticipation of starting it...or the thought of going off diet tonight and getting to eat birthday cake and ice cream. Guess you aren't surprised at how I chose to spend my birthday. Take care friends and let me know if you read DOCTOR SLEEP and what you think of it....Bingo

Happy, Happy Birthday! Have a wonderful day doing just as you please and enjoy the cake and ice cream. I'm not a Stephen King fan but I have authors that I feel the same about. Anticipation can be so sweet.

Happy Birthday. What a great present. I have been waiting for this book, for what seems to be forever. I love his books. The Stand is my favorite of all books, with The Shining, way up there, too.

Happy Happy Birthday!!! This does sound like a great book to curl up with and get spooked out :). I remember loving The Shining as well as Carrie so I have been waiting for this new book to come out.

Hope that you had a wonderful birthday. I may be the only fan of Stephen King who does like horror. I love his nonfiction book about writing. Also, I love the movie The Shining but the other ones scare me!

Give your grandson a hug for me!

Happy Birthday! I ate my birthday cake last week then had my lab work done. Not a good idea...it raised my blood sugar. Oops.

I loved The Shining so I'm guessing I will love this one too.

I'm not a big fan of this genre---so I don't think I'll be reading it.
