ABOUT THE BOOK:
There's nothing more delicious than a holiday.

Oh, is it ever true. Whether it's the anticipation of Christmastime or the ghoulish glee of Halloween, if I see a holiday on the horizon, I simply can't contain my excitement. There's just something about the traditions, the family togetherness, the resurfacing of childhood memories . . . the making of new ones. Holidays are wonderful, special, and fun . . . and they always make me happy.

And one more thing: They make me want to cook!

The Pioneer Woman Cooks: A Year of Holidays is an all-out celebration of the scrumptious, mouthwatering recipes that define our favorite occasions throughout the year. From luck-inducing Hoppin' John on New Year's Day, to a perfectly savory/sweet Glazed Easter Ham, to luscious Caramel Apples on Halloween, to a crowd-pleasing Thanksgiving feast with all the fixins, these pages are positively brimming with recipes guaranteed to make your holidays deliciously memorable . . . and memorably delicious!

Twelve different holidays are covered in delectable detail: From New Year's Day to New Year's Eve . . . and all my favorites in between. Host a party for the Big Game for your football-loving friends, make Mom a lovely Mother's Day breakfast-in-bed, invite your sweetie to a Valentine's Day romantic dinner for two . . . or ring in the New Year with a fabulous cocktail party. There's food, glorious food in this cookbook, and you won't run out of yummy things to make.

I hope you enjoy and devour every page!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Howdy. I’m Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman. Welcome to my frontier! I’m a thirty-something ranch wife, mother of four, moderately agoraphobic middle child who grew up on a golf course in the city. I attended college in Los Angeles and wore black pumps to work every day. I ate sushi and treated myself to pedicures on a semi-regular basis. I even kissed James Garner in an elevator once. Then, on a brief trip to my hometown, I met and fell in love with a rugged cattle rancher. Now I live in the middle of nowhere on a working cattle ranch. My days are spent wrangling children, chipping dried manure from boots, washing jeans, and frying calf nuts. I have no idea how I got here…but you know what? I love it. Don’t tell anyone.

A FALL RECIPE FROM REE DRUMMOND:
PUMPKIN SMOOTHIE
PREP TIME: 5 Minutes
SERVINGS:  8

INGREDIENTS:
  •     1 can (15 Ounce) Pumpkin Pie Filling
  •     3 cups Whole Milk (more If Needed)
  •     ½ cups Vanilla Yogurt (up To 1 Cup)
  •     A Few Dashes Of Cinnamon
  •     Cinnamon Graham Crackers, Crushed

PREPERATION INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Well ahead of time, place pumpkin pie filling into a freezer-safe container. Freeze for a few hours or until frozen solid.
  2. To make the smoothie, add milk, and yogurt to a blender.
  3. Drop in the frozen pumpkin pie filling and blend until the frozen filling is completely pulverized. Add more milk or yogurt as needed to get it the consistency you’d like.
  4. Pour into individual glasses and sprinkle the tops with graham cracker crumbs. Serve immediately!

*Note: Make a lower-calorie smoothie by using unsweetened/unflavored pumpkin puree, nonfat plain yogurt, and the sweetener of your choice.

*Can also sprinkle with cinnamon and/or nutmeg instead of graham cracker crumbs.

Great review. This looks like one I"m going to have to get. I have both her other books and have cooked many recipes from them as well as her blog. Thanks so much for sharing the video. I enjoyed getting a sneak peak into her new book thru that and reading your review. Hope all is well with you.

This sounds like a great cookbook! I've seen Ree on television and her food always sounds so good. And who doesn't line to cook up something new at the holidays!

I haven't seen her on TV but I read about her twice in the Country Woman magazine. You should see her house. Lots of wood and so inviting. I have already seen her recipes, they are great!

Thanks for the review, Karen. I like that there are recipes for all the holidays. I see that her own dog is featured on the covers of a few of her books. So cute!
Take care, Karen.
