THAT PART WAS TRUE
BY DEBORAH McKINLAY

ABOUT THE AUDIO BOOK:
When Eve Petworth writes to Jackson Cooper to praise a scene in one of his books, they discover a mutual love of cookery and food. Their friendship blossoms against the backdrop of Jackson's colorful, but ultimately unsatisfying, love life and Eve's tense relationship with her soon-to-be married daughter. As each of them offers, from behind the veils of semi-anonymity and distance, wise and increasingly affectionate counsel to the other, they both begin to confront their problems and plan a celebratory meeting in Paris--a meeting that Eve fears can never happen.

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
Deborah McKinlay’s THAT PART WAS TRUE is a delightfully relaxed narrative that makes it easy to follow and enjoy. The story takes readers on a journey of emotions as you follow the life of Eve Petworth and her unconventional relationship with Jackson Cooper. Eve is dealing with stress as her daughter’s wedding is being planned and probably to take her mind off it, decides to write a fan letter to a favorite author, Jackson Cooper. Cooper is going through his own problems what with trying to write and all and so answers Eve’s letter. Their correspondence begins and they find comfort and friendship in this unusual friendship. Their interaction is filled with stories of cooking and life. The cooking part was a favorite section for me. The inclusion of their letters gives readers insight into these two people’s lives especially as they write more about other personal issues that are important. In finding comfort with each other, Eve and Jack share things they probably hadn’t told anyone else and talk of plans to meet some time in the future. This meeting would take place in Paris but Eve personally doubts it will ever really happen. Keeping readers guessing about where this relationship will go and if they do meet, keeps one engaged until the end of this enjoyable story. A pleasant spring time tale made even more likable personally as I was able to relax and listen to the story on audio book!

This sounds like a really good book. I would like to see how their friendship develops through the letters, and hear more about the cooking stories.

This sounds like an interesting friendship. I'd like to follow along and see how it develops. I wonder why she thinks they won't actually meet.

It sounds like something that I usually wouldn't pick up to read, but for some reason this book tempts me--maybe because I feel a certain loneliness in the 2 people involved.
