DON'T TRY TO FIND ME: A REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
DON'T TRY TO FIND ME
BY HOLLY BROWN
ABOUT THE BOOK:
When a fourteen-year-old runs away, her parents turn to social media to find her—launching a public campaign that will expose their darkest secrets and change their family forever, in this suspenseful and gripping debut for fans of Reconstructing Amelia and Gone Girl.

Don’t try to find me. Though the message on the kitchen white board is written in Marley’s hand, her mother Rachel knows there has to be some other explanation. Marley would never run away.

As the days pass and it sinks in that the impossible has occurred, Rachel and her husband Paul are informed that the police have “limited resources.” If they want their fourteen-year-old daughter back, they will have to find her themselves. Desperation becomes determination when Paul turns to Facebook and Twitter, and launches FindMarley.com.

But Marley isn’t the only one with secrets.

With public exposure comes scrutiny, and when Rachel blows a television interview, the dirty speculation begins. Now, the blogosphere is convinced Rachel is hiding something. It’s not what they think; Rachel would never hurt Marley. Not intentionally, anyway. But when it’s discovered that she’s lied, even to the police, the devoted mother becomes a suspect in Marley’s disappearance.

Is Marley out there somewhere, watching it all happen, or is the truth something far worse?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Holly Brown lives with her husband and toddler daughter in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she's a practicing marriage and family therapist. Her blog, Bonding Time, is featured on PsychCentral.com.

PRAISE FOR DON'T TRY TO FIND ME:
“This powerfully written novel, about love and betrayal, is every parents’ worst nightmare. [...] This book is a must read!” —Fiction Addiction

“Impossible to put down. You’ll be begging friends, family, your book club, and maybe even your therapist (if you have one) to read DON’T TRY TO FIND ME. It’s the real thing.” —Meg Cabot, New York Times bestselling author of the Heather Wells mysteries and The Princess Diaries

“Don’t Try to Find Me will have you turning pages into the night, desperate to learn the terrible secrets mother and daughter are hiding! This gripping debut novel is a mother’s worst nightmare.” —Dorothea Benton Frank, New York Times bestselling author

“Gripping, emotionally compelling and chillingly plausible. I loved it.” —Sophie Hannah, internationally bestselling author of Kind of Cruel

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
DON’T TRY TO FIND ME by Holly Brown is a riveting novel that centers on a very relevant issue in our society today: Children and how their involvement with social media can be very dangerous. DON’T TRY TO FIND ME is a perfect example of what can happen in those situations. Brown writes a psychological narrative that grabs the reader from the start when parents Paul and Rachel find their only child, 14 year-old Marley, is gone. Marley has left a message saying she has left and “Don’t try to find me”. The story moves quickly into detailing how this dysfunctional family has come to the place they are now in.

Alternating from the point of view primarily of Marley and her parents, readers are drawn into the background that has brought this family to this tragic point while also keeping up with what is currently happening. The description of the father, Paul, and how he sets out to methodically find his daughter complete with media coverage is balanced by his wife, Rachel’s point of view. She has a secret she is afraid will come out and shies away from it, only to find herself a “person of interest”. Marley’s story is one that is chilling and sad, as well as one that kept me reading if for no other reason than to find out what would happen to her next. Her involvement with an online love interest takes her across the country and reveals what dangers our children face today and how easily they can be drawn into just such a perilous situation. I found it hard to stop turning pages. With characters that are well developed by the author as well as believable, DON’T TRY TO FIND ME should be a good read for those who enjoy a convincing thriller based on current issues in our society.
