ARE YOU LISTENING? THE COMPETITION: A REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

WELCOME TO BOOKIN' WITH BINGO'S"
ARE YOU LISTENING? DAY"
I AM EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE TODAY'S
AUDIO BOOK CHOICE.....
*******************************************
GIVEAWAY ENDED
THE COMPETITION
A Rachel Knight Novel
BY MARCIA CLARK
Read by January LaVoy

ABOUT THE AUDIO BOOK:
In Marcia Clark's most electrifying thriller yet, Los Angeles District Attorney Rachel Knight investigates a horrifying high school massacre.

A Columbine-style shooting at a high school in the San Fernando Valley has left a community shaken to its core. Two students are identified as the killers. Both are dead, believed to have committed a mutual suicide.

In the aftermath of the shooting, LA Special Trials prosecutor Rachel Knight teams up with her best girlfriend, LAPD detective Bailey Keller. As Rachel and Bailey interview students at the high school, they realize that the facts don't add up. Could it be that the students suspected of being the shooters are actually victims? And if so, does that mean that the real killers are still on the loose?

A dramatic leap forward in Marcia Clark's highly acclaimed Rachel Knight series, The Competition is an unforgettable story that will stay with readers long after the last page has been turned.

PRAISE FOR THE COMPETITION:
"Clark handles sometimes painfully raw scenes with great sensitivity and skillfully works in material about what makes a mass murderer, as she ratchets up suspense to a deadly conclusion. Her fourth legal thriller featuring Knight is another tour de force." (Booklist (starred review).

"What could be worse than a Columbine- style school shooting? Rachel Knight finds out in Clark's ticking time bomb of a thriller, the fourth in her series featuring the L.A. deputy DA.... The twisty plot and dynamic duo make for a suspenseful, if sobering, page-turner." (Publishers Weekly).

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Marcia Clark began practicing law as a criminal defense attorney. She became a prosecutor in the L.A. District Attorney's Office in 1981, and spent ten years in the Special Trials Unit where she handled a number of high profile cases prior to the O.J. Simpson case, including the prosecution of stalker/murderer Robert Bardo.

In May of 1997, her book on the Simpson case, Without a Doubt was published and quickly rose to #1 on the New York Times, Wall St. Journal, Washington Post, LA Times, and Publisher's Weekly bestsellers lists.

Marcia has published three novels which feature Los Angeles Special Trials prosecutor Rachel Knight: Guilt by Association, Guilt by Degrees, and Killer Ambition. TNT has optioned the books, and a drama series is currently in development. Marcia is attached as an executive producer.

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
THE COMPETITION by Marcia Clark once again unites Special Trials Prosecutor, Rachel Knight with Bailey Keller, homicide detective, in a case ripped unfortunately from headlines we read about much too often. What appears to be a mass murder at a high school involving more victims than ever, and concluding with the murderers’ suicide, doesn’t end as one would suspect. Yes, there are two people dead in the library in what appears to be this murder-suicide but upon further investigation, it turns out they are not the killers. If that is the case, then who is responsible? THE COMPETITION is certainly an appropriate title, as the killers want to outdo all other recent tragedies as they plan their next hit while Rachel Knight is trying to stay one step ahead of them.

As the narrative progresses at breakneck speed, readers will be engrossed by the examination into the mind of the senseless mass murderer, I believe, more than the actual killings. I have to credit Marcia Clark for using a sensitive approach in dealing with the victims and their families. She didn’t dwell on their pain and suffering but rather on the mental disposition of the murderer. Learning more about a psychopath compared to other killers was interesting and revealing. She also goes into the psychological effects a case like this has on those investigating it.

Clark keeps the reader guessing with twists and turns, making this truly a book you won’t want to stop listening to, or turning pages. With each of Clark’s novel, I am more impressed by her writing and character development. I have read all her books now and will certainly be watching for what she has coming up next!

I haven't read any of her books yet, but this one certainly sounds compelling. Unfortunately it could be taken from the daily newspaper. I like that it is an audio book.
