ABOUT THE AUDIO BOOK:
New York Times bestselling author Darcie Chan returns to the enchanting town of Mill River in a heartwarming novel of family, self-discovery, and forgiveness. Perfect for fans of Maeve Binchy.

Josie DiSanti is starting over. Recently widowed, she has fled her New York City home with her two young daughters—spirited Rose and shy Emily—in tow. She takes refuge in Mill River, Vermont, to live with her only remaining relative, Ivy Collard, the local bookstore owner and a woman Josie barely knows. There, the young mother and her girls build a new life for themselves—until a shocking tragedy tears the sisters apart.

Years later, Josie’s still-estranged daughters return to the quiet town for the reading of their mother’s will, which stipulates that they must work together to locate a hidden key to a safe-deposit box containing their inheritance. Even from the great beyond, it seems Josie will do anything to bring about her daughters’ reconciliation. Having no choice but to go along with their mother’s final wishes, Rose and Emily move back to Mill River for the summer to begin the search—discovering that, in the close-knit community known for magic and miracles, an even greater treasure awaits them.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Darcie Chan is the New York Times bestselling author of the eBook sensation The Mill River Recluse and the novel The Mill River Redemption. She has been featured in The New York Times, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal. For fourteen years, Chan worked as an attorney drafting environmental and natural resource legislation for the U.S. Senate. She now writes fiction full-time and lives north of New York City with her husband and son.

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
In THE MILL RIVER REDEMPTION, author Darcie Chan returns to Mill River, Vermont, for the character driven story of Josie DiSanti's emotional journey. Josie and her daughters, Rose and Emily, arrive in Mill River from New York City following the death of Josie's husband, Tony, the girls' dad. The mystery that surrounds THE MILL RIVER REDEMPTION starts at this point and is woven into what becomes two main parts of the book. One part tells of the new life this family makes for themselves-"the past".

Coming to live with their only relative, Aunt Ivy, Josie slowly creates a comfortable and close life for her little family. With Aunt Ivy, who runs a book store, readers get to know the well fleshed out women and girls. As Josie becomes a contributing, well-liked member of the little Mill River community, we find out how different the two girls are. Rose, the eldest, pushes the boundaries even as a child while Emily is portrayed as a sweet and loving sister and daughter. However, something horrible happens between these sisters that causes a break in their relationship and they go their separate ways in life for years.

The second part-"the present", brings Emily and Rose back to Mill River for their mother's funeral. Her sudden death is a shock to them as well as all the people in the community who loved her, including Aunt Ivy. The sisters are forced to work together in that their mother's will gives them a puzzle to solve before one or the other can inherit what she is leaving to them. The sisters have grown up to become women with their own sets of problems that have to also be addressed.

Alternating between the two parts of the story, past and present, leads readers on a roller coaster ride with some very unsuspected surprises. This is just one part of the mystery that makes this narrative a page turner and keeps readers guessing.  Because author Darcie Chan has done such a wonderful job with character development and uses such touching descriptions, one feels close to the characters and what is happening in this mystery. Questions come up during the story that make readers wonder how and why certain things happened. Just why was Josie so afraid when she arrived in town and always on guard? How did Tony die and why don't we, as readers, know more about him? Who is the mysterious person in town who gives gifts to its citizens including a home to Josie...and why? And most mysterious of all is just what happened between Emily and Rose that became such a major part of THE MILL RIVER REDEMPTION? A fast moving story, in that readers won't be able to stop reading, makes this Darcie Chan mystery a must read!
