THE READERS OF BROKEN
WHEEL RECOMMEND
READ BY FIONA HARDINGHAM
AND LORELEI KING
BY KATARINA BIVALD

ABOUT THE AUDIO BOOK:
A debut novel to charm all readers, that shows beyond all doubt that it’s books, along with love, that make the world go round.

It all began with a correspondence between two quite different women: 28-year-old Sara from Haninge, Sweden, and 65-year-old Amy from the small town of Broken Wheel, Iowa. After years of exchanging books, letters and thoughts on the meaning of literature and life, Sara, mousy, disheveled, who has never been anywhere in her life–has really lived only for her work in a beloved bookshop, which has just closed its doors for the last time–bravely decides to accept her unknown friend’s invitation to visit. But when she arrives, she finds her house empty, the funeral guests just heading home. . .

Sara finds herself alone. And what choice do the inhabitants of Broken Wheel have but to take care of their bewildered tourist? And what choice does Sara have, faced with a town where nobody reads and her desire to honour her friend, but to set up the perfect bookshop with all the books she and Amy shared–from Yann Martel’s Life of Pi to Iris Murdoch and Jo Nesbo, to Bridget Jones and Doug Coupland’s All Families Are Psychotic to Little House on the Prairie? And then watch as the townsfolk are, one by one, transformed in unexpected ways. . .

In the glorious tradition of 84 Charing Cross Road, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café, Will Schwalbe’s The End of Your Life Book Club, Jane Austen, and movies such as You’ve Got Mail and Love Actually, The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend is a big-hearted, witty book about books, friendship, love–and always being open to the unexpected.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
KATARINA BIVALD grew up working part-time in a bookshop. Today she lives in Älta, Sweden, with her sister and as many bookshelves as she can squeeze in. She has still not decided whether she prefers books or people.

PRAISE FOR THE READERS OF BROKEN WHEEL RECOMMEND:
"The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend is one of the more surprisingly improbable and delightful books I've read in years.  What begins as an unlikely international friendship based on a mutual love of books becomes a sweet and soulful discovery of America.  Quirky, unpredictable, funny, and fresh – a wonderful book." - Nickolas Butler, internationally bestselling author of Shotgun Lovesongs and Beneath the Bonfire

"This classic fish-out-of-water story will steal your heart. It's smart, sweet, absorbing and endearing, just like the town of Broken Wheel. It's a story for everyone who believes in the magic of books to enlighten, heal and restore. A treat for readers everywhere!"
- Susan Wiggs, New York Times bestselling author of Starlight on Willow Lake

"A heartwarming tale about literature's power to transform." - People

"Charmingly original....sweet, quirky."
- Bethanne Patrick, The Washington Post

"[A] heartwarming and utterly charming debut by Swedish author Bivald. This gentle, intelligent Midwestern tale will captivate fans of Antoine Laurain's The Red Notebook, Nina George's The Little Paris Bookshop, and Gabrielle Zevin's The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry. An ideal book group selection, it reminds us why we are book lovers and why it's nice to read a few happy endings."
- Library Journal, starred review

"A manifesto for booksellers, booklovers, and friendship. We should all celebrate these little bookstores, where our souls find home... one of these books you want to live in for a while."
- Nina George, New York Times bestselling author of The Little Paris Bookshop

MY THOUGHTS:
This is a book that every reader should enjoy. I listened to it and was entranced by the characters, especially Sara, who was able to create a new life for herself in America while also creating "new lives" for most of the citizens of Broken Wheel, Iowa. Charming and fun, just the right kind of tale to have readers cheering! Also available as an ebook, hardback, and paperback so makes it easy for you to pick up a copy.

It sounds like a wonderful story.

Sounds like a very enjoyable story. My mother had a friend who moved to Oregon. They corresponded for many years until the mother died. Then her friend's daughter started writing that went on until my mother died.

This sounds so interesting! For a woman alone in Sweden, to travel across the Atlantic to visit someone she's never met, takes a tremendous amount of courage! Now what matters is what she does with it after such a huge shock. This sounds like a great book! jeaniedannheim (at) ymail (dot) com
