PRIME TIME HEALTH: REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
PRIME-TIME HEALTH

BY WILLIAM SEARS, MD
with MARTHA SEARS, RN

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Twelve years ago, renowned physician and author Dr. William Sears was diagnosed with cancer. He, like so many people, wanted-and needed-to take control of his health. Dr. Sears created a comprehensive, science based, head-to-toe program for living a long, fit life-and it worked. Now at the peak of health, Dr. Sears shares his program in PRIME-TIME HEALTH. This engaging and deeply informative book will motivate readers to make crucial behavior and lifestyle changes. Dr. Sears explores how to keep each body system healthy and delay those usual age-related changes.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:

William Sears, M.D., received his pediatric training at Harvard Medical School's Children's Hospital and Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. He has practiced as a pediatrician for more than thirty years. Martha Sears is a registered nurse, childbirth educator, and breastfeeding consultant. The Searses are the parents of eight children. Drs. Robert and James Sears are both board-certified pediatricians at the Sears Family Pediatric Practice in San Clemente, California. All four authors live in southern California. More information about the Searses can be found at www.SearsParenting.com and www.AskDrSears.com.

REVIEW:

PRIME-TIME HEALTH is a research based book that explains to readers what they can do now to plan for good health in their older years. “Prime-timers” is aimed at people in their 40-50's, but also offers important information for the young and old as well. Dr. Sears advocates that "self-care" is the answer to the health care today. By following his plan, he claims that one can drastically reduce the risks of cancer and other ailments such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar. Information about cardio-vascular health, dental health, keeping the brain razor-sharp, vision problems, reversing bone loss, hearing problems, reducing the need for drug therapy, and more is presented. Each chapter starts with a description of what a body has to deal with due to certain ailments, what causes problems, and how to prevent or improve those problems. Also, Dr. Sears presents an 8-week prime-time health plan.

For those concerned about the readability of this book, it is fine. It is written more in an engaging “chatty” way than a boring factual recounting. Some of the parts of the book include: Are You Ready For Prime Time Health, Keeping Your Body At It's Prime, Prime time Well Being, the Prime Time Plan, and more.

Like most things we all really know, the advice is simple, even if we don’t follow it, but it is remembering to eat correctly and move more. There are also other recommendations for each area of the book. It even includes some suggestions on specific foods and simple exercises that are really good for you. With the description of how your body changes over the years, and how we can prevent disease, it does make us think twice about how we live our lives ESPECIALLY if you are in these prime years mentioned. BUT it also is never too early or too late. Common sense tells us that, and Dr. Sears reaffirms it with his research. I found it to be an easy read, resource, and valuable reference book to keep in my home and try to implement as much as possible.

A query that I have for the doctor would be how to avoid any ailments as we age and how some people are more fortunate with their health and others not, aside from genetics. saubleb(at)gmail(dot)com

I'd heard recently that blueberries aren't as nutritional if you eat them with milk. I'd like to know his thoughts on that since I've been putting them in my cereal.

The question that I would ask the doctor is what advice would he give to 50 plus year old women and men for diet, lifestyle and exercise to stay healthy and active, mentally and physically.
