MOMMY POWER: REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
MOMMY POWER
Discovering Your Mommy Strength
BY DR. SHEILA SCHULLER COLEMAN

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Many women struggle with being mothers. The great joys of parenting are hindered by harsh self-doubt and a chronic lack of physical and emotional energy. In MOMMY POWER, Sheila Schuller Coleman helps women understand that while they really don't have the power or strength to handle the demands of motherhood alone, they don't have to. Mommy strength, Sheila says, comes from asking God to lend some of His, knowing He will never fail to provide. God will enable anyone who asks to become a powerful mother who loves strong, forgives strong, and models a strong faith.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Sheila Schuller Coleman has a doctorate in educational leadership and administration. For over a decade she has worked in both the public and private school arenas, mentoring schoolteachers, principals, and preschool directors. Sheila is currently senior pastor of the Crystal Cathedral. She lives in Southern California with her husband, Jim, and they are the parents of four children. You can contact Sheila and read her column at www.crystalcathedral.org/Sheila. MY REVIEW:

MOMMY POWER: Discovering Your MOMMY Strength by Dr. Sheila Schuller Coleman is a small book with big helpful ideas that is perfect for Mother’s Day. This book’s purpose, in my opinion, is to help especially young mothers to understand that they don’t have to be this SUPER WOMAN, Super Mom, and perfect which is so stressed in our society today. Dr. Coleman believes that in order to understand this and be able to realize you don’t need to do every single thing that you see going on around you in society today, one needs to be closer to God and be the person He wants them to be.

Dr. Coleman uses many practical and relevant ideas from her own life experience in which she raised four boys. She is very clear on the importance of making sure that mothers think about and take care of themselves first and foremost, or they are no use to anyone. She stresses getting enough rest and allotting time to have a relationship in which they are comfortable with God. Dr. Coleman herself uses scriptures in her own life and she feels that it keeps her and the world around her in balance. With all the demands placed on these mothers, that is very important. She shares examples and stories of things that work and things that don’t. She most importantly, offers scripture along with some lovely meaningful prayers that can be used as we go about out daily lives as mothers.

I found the book easy to read and understand. I believe if you are of the mind set that this is they way you want to live your life, this is the perfect “guide” to help you get through it, and that you can apply what you learn in varied experiences, but especially in raising your children.

This book is invaluable and gives us insight into the fact that we are mothers but do not need to be supermoms to be successful and validated. saubleb(at)gmail(dot)com

I think it's interesting - and wonderful - that the author has 4 children. I definitely prefer to read advice from actual parents who have experience!

When I read this section of the Mommy Power post:

"asking God to lend some of His, knowing He will never fail to provide. God will enable anyone who asks to become a powerful mother who loves strong, forgives strong, and models a strong faith."

It really spoke to me. Sometimes we try so hard to do everything by ourselves and we become so overwhelmed. I have to slow down and remember that all I have to do is to ask God to help me. An He ALWAYS does. It's amazing that something so simple can help so much.
