SWAN: GIVEAWAY

GIVEAWAY ENDED
SWAN

BY FRANCES MAYES

ABOUT THE BOOK:

By the #1 bestselling author of Under the Tuscan Sun, Bella Tuscany and In Tuscany, Swan is a haunting novel set in the deep South -- a resonant tale of long-buried family secrets and mysteries brought suddenly to light.

In her celebrated memoirs of life in Tuscany, Frances Mayes writes masterfully about people in a powerful and shaping place. In Swan, her first novel, she has created an equally intimate world, rich with striking characters and intriguing twists of fate, that hearkens back to her southern roots. The Masons are a prominent but now fragmented family who have lived for generations in Swan, an edenic, hidebound small town in Georgia. As Swan opens, a bizarre crime pulls Ginger Mason home from her life as an archeologist in Italy: The body of her mother, Catherine, a suicide nineteen years before, has been mysteriously exhumed. Reunited on new terms with her troubled, isolated brother J.J., who has never ventured far from Swan, the Mason children grapple with the profound effects of their mother's life and death on their own lives. When a new explanation for Catherine’s death emerges, and other closely guarded family secrets rise to the surface as well, Ginger and J.J. are confronted with startling truths about their family, a particular ordeal in a family and a town that wants to keep the past buried.

Beautifully evoking the rhythms and idiosyncrasies of the deep South while telling an utterly compelling story of the complexity of family ties, Swan marks the remarkable fiction debut of one of America’s best-loved writers.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

FRANCES MAYES is the author of four books about Tuscany. The now-classic Under the Tuscan Sun–which was a New York Times bestseller for more than two and a half years and became a Touchstone movie starring Diane Lane. It was followed by Bella Tuscany and two illustrated books, In Tuscany and Bringing Tuscany Home. She is also the author of the novel, Swan, six books of poetry, and The Discovery of Poetry. Her books have been translated into more than twenty languages.

Family secrets and a mystery sounds like a perfect combination for a great book. I haven't read this book or the two previous books in this series Under the Tuscan Sun and Bella Tuscany. I wonder if one should read these in order? BTW the recipe on her web site Pollo al Mattone (Chicken Under a Brick) sounds delicious. GREAT reveiw!

How an author can get from Swan, GA and supense to romances set in Tuscany and poetery books, I don't know. Being from south Alabama, I always like to read the books about the 'Deep South.'I would love to win this one. ybutler@oppcatv.com

Well, since she splits her time between Italy and North Carolina, it kind of explains her southern setting! I've never read Under the Tuscan Sun, but would like to!
Thanks!

It is no wonder why the author is celebrating 20 years at Bramasol with all the beautiful scenery, wine, food, and festivals. It seems that she lives an idyllic life.

Frances Mayes seems to be a very interesting woman! She has a wonderful website where I discovered she has written quite a bit of poetry. She writes a variety of different genres: fiction, memoir, travel books, photo books and poetry because she said she's entertaining herself when writing! I want to read her travel memoir, "A Year in the World" because it gave Frances Mayes the chance to stay in all of the places she's dreamed of living. I am sure it's a wonderful book.
