QUESTION: Where did you get the inspiration or idea for this book?

If not, it’s simple—the only trick is not to burn the chocolate as you melt it. The most foolproof way I’ve found is to boil water in a large saucepan.
Put the chocolate in a heatproof bowl small enough to fit inside the saucepan.
Take the saucepan off the heat, then submerge the heatproof bowl partially in the water, stirring to melt the chocolate.
Once the chocolate is liquid, stir in the rest of the ingredients and serve immediately with the strawberries.

QUESTION: Where did you get the inspiration or idea for this book?
LOUISA: Just One Taste came about because I’d been reading Harold McGee’s wonderful food chemistry textbook, and it made me want to explore the whole subject. And when I came up with the idea to have the hero and heroine delve into aphrodisiacs, I knew I’d found a story that would give me lots of sparks!
QUESTION: How did the title of your book come about?
LOUISA: I’ve been lucky; my publisher has loved all my titles for the books so far. I chose Just One Taste, because I felt it epitomized the sexy, sensual play on aphrodisiacs that’s so central to the plot.
QUESTION: Do you see yourself in your characters? Which characters are easiest or more difficult to write?
LOUISA: Dr. Rosemary Wilkins, the heroine of Just One Taste, is a total chemistry genius. Which I’m not. She’s also an out-and-proud nerd. Which I am! I loved having the chance to write a character with all the same pop culture references I use. I had so much fun with Rosemary! She’s not always sure what to do in social situations, but she has a big heart, ready to love the right guy . .
QUESTION: What books would you say have made the biggest impression on you, especially starting out? What are you currently reading?
LOUISA: I would never have written a romance without the examples of authors such as Suzanne Brockmann (and her fabulous secondary characters), Jennifer Crusie (and her incredibly witty characters), and of course, my first romantic novels, Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre and Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. The last books I read were Something About You by Julie James and Medium Raw by Anthony Bourdain.
QUESTION: What is the next or current book/project you are working on?
LOUISA: I just turned in the first book of my next trilogy, Too Hot to Touch! Scheduled to come out August 2011, Too Hot to Touch is the beginning of a series of books about a team of talented chefs in a high-stakes culinary competition. The next two books will be Some Like it Hot and Hot Under Pressure, and they’ll follow soon after Too Hot to Touch.
QUESTION: What is something about you that you would want people to know about you that we probably don’t know?
LOUISA: My favorite band is My Chemical Romance. Can’t wait for the new album!
QUESTION: What is your best advice to anyone, including young people, who want to be writers?
LOUISA: Keep at it; perseverance makes all the difference. And write something you feel personally connected to—don’t simply follow a trend.
AUTHOR RECIPE FROM JUST ONE TASTE:
Chocolate Fondue
6 ounces of the best bittersweet chocolate
½ cup heavy whipping cream
1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons cognac
Strawberries, long stems attached
If you have a fondue pot, simply combine the first four ingredients and stir them together over the heat source.
