CHILDREN/YOUNG ADULT BOOK CHOICE IS.....
GIVEAWAY ENDED
A LIGHT IN THE ATTIC
POEMS AND DRAWINGS BY
SHEL SILVERSTEIN
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Last night while I lay thinking here
Some Whatifs crawled inside my ear
And pranced and partied all night long
And sang their same old Whatif song:Whatif I flunk that test?
Whatif green hair grows on my chest?
Whatif nobody likes me?
Whatif a bolt of lightning strikes me?...
Here in the attic of Shel Silverstein you will find Backward Bill, Sour Face Ann, the Meehoo with an Exactlywatt, and the Polar Bear in the Frigidaire. You will talk with Broiled Face, and find out what happens when Somebody steals your knees, you get caught by the Quick-Digesting Gink, a Mountain snores, and They Put a Brassiere on the Camel.
From the creator of the beloved poetry collections Where the Sidewalk Ends and Falling Up, here is another wondrous book of poems and drawings.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR:
Shel Silverstein is the author-artist of many beloved books of prose and poetry. He was a cartoonist, playwright, poet, performer, recording artist, and Grammy-winning, Oscar-nominated songwriter.

My wife and I enjoy poetry and love to read the same to our grandson so we would both find this book to be fansinating. We both enjoy writing poetry as well ... so I thought I would share with you a pros that wrote a few months ago.
The Old Violin by: Steve Capell
The strings of grandpa's violin
Awaits the master's hands
Setting in the corner
Trying to understand
Years have long past
Since his fingers stroked the strings
Invading tunes into the night time air
Making the old violin sing
Memories of melodies now invade the air
Allowing my soul to hear what once was played
Now only dust covers its strings
Looking as if its been betrayed
The day will come when Angels will arrive
Taking my soul for a heavenly ride
The heavenly gates where all things come true
And Angels wipe the tears that have been cried
I will ask the angels at this special time
One front row center seat on God's heavenly shore
Handing over the old violin
So grandpa can play the the strings once more © 2010
Thanks for the opportunity!

I would love to have this copy for my collection. I have a ragged old copy of Light in the Attic that has been read over and over again for years, so this would be useful for years to come. (They just don't bind books the way they used too, though!

I'd love to win this book as it is the only book of Silverstein's I have yet to read. I don't own any of his books and would love too. I think he's an inspiration, an adult who has retained some of the innocence, humor and light-hertedness of children which comes through in his work. Few authors write for adults and children alike in the same work but that is one of the many wonders of Shel Silverstein's poetry and prose, it speaks to all of us, young and old.
This is a fantastic giveaway, Bingo, thank you!

Thank you for directing us to Shel Silverstein's websit. What fun! I enjoyed the pictures of Shel and the listings of favorite poems but my favorite was the section "Memorize By Tomorrow" because of the fun way each poem or prose section was presented. I spent quite a while at Shel's website. He's such a creative and talented man!
